Memorial Day - Red, White and Blue

I wanted to make something patriotic for Memorial Day.  I think this looks like fireworks - so maybe it would be better for the Fourth of July!  I designed the card in the Silhouette Studio software and cut it with my Cameo machine.  I'll post more details tomorrow.

Today is a day to remember all of the men and women who died serving in the US Armed Forces.  Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day and it originated after the Civil War to honor the fallen Union soldiers.  There is an interesting Wikipedia article HERE if you'd like to know more about the holiday and how it evolved.  There are parades in many places and people visit cemeteries and memorials.  The flag is flown at half staff until noon.  Memorial Day has come to be considered the beginning of the summer season and many people have a barbecue or picnic.

Whatever your plans are - I hope you have a nice day.

If you are on the email feed, this message should contain two posts - the first one is the recipe for the yummy brownies I made this weekend.

  4. It is so neat that you used the design in the center of an iris for inspiration. I absolutely love the abundance of beauty in bearded iris, absolutely my favorite flower.
