Post Thanksgiving Shopping - Deals!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to enjoy the day visiting (and eating!) with family and friends. We had just three of us at the table for Thanksgiving but I cooked for a crowd since the leftovers are the best part.  We then joined family for a dessert feast!

My husband's sister made this incredible concoction -pies baked inside cakes and assembled into a towering dessert!  I tried this with my sister a couple of years ago - you can read about that in the blog post HERE.  We just tried a single layer.  The original concept includes three layers of pies in cakes - I can't imagine how many calories there would be per slice for that!

I have been a little under the weather since Thanksgiving but I did manage to do some online shopping and found some great deals.  I wanted to share a few of the places where you can find some terrific bargains (some but not all of these are affiliate links - there are deals to be found in lots of places at this time of year).

http://blitsy.com?code=989&ref=1

Blitsy always has discounted prices on popular brands and many have been reduced even lower for the Black Friday sales.  They are also celebrating their third birthday with more special deals.  If you are not already a member of this site, please us my link by clicking HERE to sign up (membership is free).  Once you are a member, you can get a referral code to share with your friends.  I picked up a few Tim Holtz dies that I had been thinking about for great prices.

There are still great deals on the Cricut site - 100 cartridges that are only $14.99 and most others are $19.99.  Clearance items are reduced 80% - some incredible bargains to be found on Cuttlebug folders, a Cricut shoulder bag for carrying the original machine or the Expression, some Yudu and Your Story supplies, and more - click HERE to see the Clearance section.

If you missed Lain Ehmann's True Scrap 6 you can buy individual classes from the event and save $5 on each class.  If you want all of the classes, you can add them to your cart and use the code "BLACK" to get all 9 classes (over 10 hours of video) for just $74 (a savings of 45%).  This offer ends at midnight Eastern time tonight (11/30) - click HERE to see all of the classes.  I really enjoyed this event and I think you will find that many of the classes will fit your interests.

I also found some incredible bargains at the Sizzix Black Friday sale.  There are quite a few items for $5 and under - including a number of Tim Holtz dies and embossing folders.  You can find that sale HERE.

There are lots of specials on the Silhouette site if you have a Silhouette machine.  I was excited to see that the shadow box advent calendar is available again.  I made this a few years ago with my neighbor.  There is a download card included with the shadow box that has exclusive designs to fit the box.

Thanksgiving Week - Cricut Deals

Happy Monday!  It's Thanksgiving week and along with all of the festive food and family reunions, it's time for some great deals.  Black Friday sales have already started and will continue through the weekend.  I have started preparing for the Thanksgiving feast and still need to decide which kinds of pie to make.  There have been quite a few other family projects taking up my time the past couple of weeks.  Some will have to stay "secret" for a while, but all will be revealed eventually!

There are some special deals available right now on the Cricut website. As an affiliate, I already know that there will be an extra special deal for those of you who are thinking about getting an Explore machine (but I can't post that until Thursday!).

http://www.shareasale.com/u.cfm?d=233090&m=51766&u=593159&afftrack=

Nearly all cartridges and image sets are $19.99 (click HERE) or less right now - there are quite a few that are only $14.99 (click HERE)

If you have a Subscription to the Image Library, you might want to add some of the cartridges that are not included in the subscription to your collection.  The Disney cartridges (click HERE) and some of the earlier cartridges that are not part of the subscription might be good choices.  A few of my favorites that are not in the subscription are Joys of the Season, Storybook, Graphically Speaking, and Lyrical Letters (also available in a bundle with Lyrical Letters 2 HERE).

If you fill up your shopping cart with more than $50 worth of items here is another special offer.  Until December 1st, you can save $5 Off Orders $50+ with code: CRICUTBF5 (valid until 12/1).

You can also get free standard shipping to the continental U. S. on any size order until November 30th with this special code. Get free shipping to the U.S. all month with code FREESHIPNOV.

Veterans Day Birthday Box Card

Today is Veterans Day. Originally called Armistice Day to honor the veterans of World War I, the name was changed to Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all veterans. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month we stop to honor all of those who have bravely served our country for their patriotism and willingness to sacrifice for the common good.

My mother-in-law has a friend who is celebrating her 96th birthday today.  She served with the Red Cross during World War II.  I made this special box card for her.

http://www.svgcuts.com/affiliates/jrox.php?id=3618&jxURL=http://svgcuts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=30&products_id=393

Because her friend's birthday falls on Veterans Day, my mother-in-law asked for a card with flags.  I remembered this festive box card from the Summer Box Cards set by SVG Cuts and decided I could adapt it to make it look more seasonal for November.

These are all of the pieces of the card as they appear in Design Space before cutting.  I changed the colors of certain pieces to suit the season.  I also added a tiny red cross to place at the top of the building.  For the birthday message on the back, I cut the "96" from glitter cardstock and had the Explore write the "Happy Birthday" with a gold metallic pen.

When you upload the SVG files from SVG Cuts to Design Space to cut with the Cricut Explore, you need to use the PDF menu included with each purchase to size the pieces correctly.  (There is a detailed explanation of how to do this in THIS POST and FAQs with detailed explanations and videos on the SVG Cuts site HERE).

I used an older Cuttlebug folder called "Pajama Stripes" to emboss the building to look like horizontal siding.  The red cross at the top is very tiny, about 3/8 of an inch tall!  It fits perfectly in the bunting.

I changed the green grass on the summer card to this textured design brown paper from an older Debbie Mumm paper stack.

The tree trunk is embossed with a Darice embossing folder called "Thin Lines."

I took the cut outs from the bushes and added them to the tree to represent autumn leaves.

The tree is raised up from the card back with some foam squares for added dimension.

The blue sky was also embossed with a Darice embossing folder called "Cloudy Sky."

In this side view, you can see all of the interior sections.  I added tiny clear star gems to the three stars on the flag banners.

I also added a star at the top of the  building.

Here is the back of the card, ready to add a personal message.

Box cards are fun to make because they have so much dimension but will fold flat (the bone folder is just holding the card down while I took the photo).

The file includes an envelope that is purposefully designed to be large enough to fit  the card even if it is heavily embellished with dimensional items.  I used glittered star cardstock from an old DCWV Summer stack for the envelope.  I would recommend hand delivering or mailing these cards in a bubble mailer for added protection.

Here is one more view of the card on the envelope.

Leo and Mary at SVG Cuts have wonderful designs and instructions.  Even the most challenging projects are easy if you follow their directions and watch the videos for assembly instructions.  They also offer new kits as "free gifts with purchase" for a limited time when they are released.

http://www.svgcuts.com/affiliates/jrox.php?id=3618&jxURL=http://svgcuts.com/blog/2014/11/01/mistletoe-manor-svg-kit/

The current offer is the Mistletoe Manor Kit.  It includes this amazing building, plus two cards, a gift bag and a lantern.  You also can use individual elements from these projects to make your own variations and new projects.

To get the Mistletoe Manor Kit for free, you need to visit SVG Cuts between now and Monday, November 17th.  Spend $9.98 or more, add the Mistletoe Manor kit to your cart, type "FREEGIFT" in the coupon field, and complete your checkout.  All of the files you purchase will be available for immediate download after you complete the checkout.

The days are getting shorter and colder here in New England. This weekend we saw a very dramatic sky with rippling clouds.  They say snow is on the way or at least some very cold weather for most of the US.  Stay warm and safe and do something crafty inside!

November 1st - Digital Scrapbooking Day

Happy November!  Today is International Digital Scrapbooking Day and there are some wonderful special deals and freebies available from lots of digital designers and stores.

If you are on the mailing lists of some digital designers you probably have received newsletters with special deals already.  If you are just starting to use digital products, a good place to start is the DigiScrapParade.  You can find the list of participating designers HERE.  Be sure to say thanks for all of the free goodies.

I buy a lot of kits at Snap Click Supply and they are offering 25% off the entire store, today (November 1st) only.

If you are use the Panstoria Artisan program (this replaced the old Creative Memories StoryBook Creator program) there is also a 25% off sale on all digital content until Sunday, November 2, at midnight Eastern Time.  You can find the digital content HERE.  They still offer the digital content from Creative Memories, so if you missed out on a kit that you wanted this is a great time to add it to your collection.

I used the Primary Halloween Digital Power Palette Addition to add the words to my pumpkin photo.  I also used an overlay with dots from the Jewel Heritage Digital Overlays.

before adding digital embellishments...

It's fun to "dress up" your photos just a bit by adding words and overlays.  I also added a thin border, colored matched to one of the pumpkins.

I hope you had a nice Halloween.  We had about 150 trick-or-treaters last night.

I set up the candy buffet in the front hall.  In addition to candy this year, I had some Oreos and Mint Milano cookie packages.  These were a hit!

My little neighbors were Elsa and Anna from Frozen this year.  They are five now and in Kindergarten.  I managed to get them to stop for a quick photo.

Our neighborhood parade banner lost a few letters!  We will need to cut a new "L" and and "R" before next year.  Do you recognize some of the Cricut cuts on this banner?

The weather has definitely changed here - cold and rainy today.  At least we were able to get lots of projects done around the house.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
