Vintage images

Sometimes I start to clean up my computer desktop and discover bits and pieces of projects that I started and never shared - usually because I had an idea to take the project in another direction and haven't had a chance to do that yet.  I was searching for something completely different when I ran across this image.  I created this digitally starting with a cornucopia image from Twisted Papers.  If you are at all interested in vintage images to use for your projects you should definitely check out this site.

Most of the single images are just $1.00 and you can get a monthly subscription for $24.95 that allows you to download 500 images - which makes them about a nickel each!  You do not have to commit to more than a month and the subscription does not renew automatically.  If you are curious to see the image that I used to make the star at the top of this post, you will find it HERE.

I always find it fascinating to see how different an image looks when you change the background color - here are a couple of examples.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to complete this long postponed project on Wednesday - I was busy working on some items for the wedding rehearsal dinner (and using lots of adhesive!)

This is what my work area looked like when I stopped for the day.  I know I should have just tossed all of this but I couldn't resist taking a picture first!  Things will be getting even busier than usual around here as we count down the days to the wedding.  I do have some non-wedding projects to share with you in the meanwhile and there will be lots of photos and possibly some files to share after the wedding.

Today is "Hello Thursday" when new Cricut cartridges are announced.  I don't know if anyone is still trying to collect all of the cartridges.  It seemed like a realistic possibility to own them all when I first got my Cricut four years ago.  I have realized over time that I don't need or want them all.  The good thing is that with the wide variety of cartridges issued, there is something for everyone.  A cartridge that has no appeal for me may be just the thing that someone else is looking for.

I have also been working with other machines and software programs that are allowing me to create totally unique images.  I am finding many new possibilities that I hope to be able to share with you soon.  I still use my Cricuts frequently but I wanted to explore new ways of creating.  I am excited to see what I can do with just my imagination and software that allows me to easily do some of the things that are either not possible or very time consuming with Design Studio or the Gypsy (or the CraftRoom online design tool that is still in beta).

I wonder how many of you are interested in learning more about some of these other options?

  3. I am very interested--though perhaps I shouldn't be! I love my Cricut & Gypsy, can't really afford a new machine just now, but would like to see what can be done with a machine that is less limited than Cricut. I never got into SCAL/MTC type programs, but could see the appeal of them...so would be quite interested to learn more about Silhouette & other cutting machines that allow more personal/direct input of designs...

thanks so much for your blog, Diane--I'm a daily reader & find your work very inspiring.

  5. I am interested that you got the Silhouette. I am very frustrated right now with Design Studio. I am about to give up and buy a new machine. Have been awaiting Cricut Craft Room, but am growing impatient. I like using the computer and software to design. I use SCAl but have all these cartridges! Love all your projects. Thanks for your help.

  6. I am definitely considering new options such as the new Silhouette Cameo - I do use SCAL and it works for now with the Cricut as long as I don't update my firmware - would love to get your ideas!

  7. I've finally solved my Design Studio cutting (or not cutting) issues, although it is with a work around on my system. I just got invited to use CCR after PC could not help me yet with my DS issues. I love the Cricut, and want to keep using it. That said, I always want to learn about new things, and you do such a thorough job of showing us things that I would love for you to share this with us - just hope that you never stop using your Cricut either.

  10. Interesting colours. I've been helping a friend with wedding stuff too so I understand the use of adhesive!

  11. YES, I am interested in other cutting machines. I was using SCAL but since the new version won't work on the Cricut and the old one probably won't when I update my Cricut the next time, I am looking at other cutting machines and would appreciate your input as well as seeing other projects you create, everything you do amazes me and incourages and inspires me to think outside of the box and use things in ways other that that which is obvious.

  12. Sorry, I'm not at all interested in any of the other machines. I've got approx 250 Cricut cartridges & all the Cricut machines &, even though I'm getting more computer comfortable every day, I like that Cricut doesn't need a computer to work. I've got too much invested in it & the way it works suits my purposes.

  13. I'm a techie granny and love anything new, but being retired and on a very fixed income I can only dream of the possibilities. That's okay, between stamping and Cricut I'm happy. I aslo get my enjoyment out of your daily column Diane.

  16. Yes, yes, yes! I'm interested in what you have been doing with the other machines and software! I know I want a new die cutting machine for Christmas and would love to hear what you have been up to with yours!!! Thanks for taking the time to share your interests and projects with all of us. Been a faithful subscriber (though not a frequent commenter... sorry!) for a long time now.

  17. I, too, have a lot invested in cartridges, however, I wonder how long Provocraft is going to support the Cricut. I am always interested in learning about other machines and what they can do. Thank you for all you do and for your generous sharing of all you do.

  18. I'm interested in knowing all about the silhouette machine. I talked with a lady in the store and she said you don't need cartridges. What is this machine like as opposed to the cricut?
