A quick and simple Birthday Card

Sometimes you just need to make a quick and easy card.  I like using the Cuttlebug Combo Sets for these cards.  They have an embossing folder and coordinating die with multiple sentiments.  For this card I used the "Birthday Wishes" combo.  Six of these sets came out a couple of years ago and I have collected all of them.  You can sometimes find them on sale very reasonably now since they are a few years old.

I cut my card layer at 4 x 5 1/4 inches and embossed it with the candle folder.  I wanted to add a ribbon so I pierced the cardstock and threaded this thin ribbon through the holes.

The back of the card topper has just this bit of ribbon showing after the bow is tied on the front.

The coordinating die for this set has these tiny vertical words to place on one of the candles.  I used the LetraTac adhesive that I wrote about HERE to attach these to the embossed candles.  You can see that I still have lots of adhesive dots left for more small pieces.

I added the words and the die cut candle from the set but the card still looked rather bland.

Then I decided to add various shades of Creative Charms gradient gem stickers to the candle flames.  (Remember, Creative Charms is having a super sale on these this week and you can get all of the colors of gems and pearls - 12 sets for just $7.99.  Click HERE to go to the page on the Creative Charms site).

Inside the card I added a pocket for a gift card.  This is simply a piece of cardstock cut at 5 1/4 x 3 inches with the top edge punched with a border punch.  The piece is adhered to the card only on the side and the bottom edge so you can easily slide in a gift card and write your message on the pocket.

Here is the final card.  Once I decided to add the gems, I didn't care for my ribbon choice but I kept it since it was firmly anchored to the card.  I thought the effect of the small gems to form the "flames" in the candles was very pretty.

Special Birthday wishes to our older son who is rafting in the Grand Canyon and won't see this until much later!  We can't wait to hear all about the trip...

  1. Love your quick and easy card. Thanks for the written out instructions. I love your videos, but, I am one of those people that likes to write things out and have for future reference. I ordered the adhesive from Letraset. We are traveling right now and will be home next week. It should be there when we get home. Can't wait to try it. Thanks again.
