Happy Grandparents Day!

Today is National Grandparents Day.  This holiday was founded by Marian McQuade from West Virginia, who wanted to honor the elderly and encourage children to appreciate the wisdom and heritage provided by their grandparents.  She had 15 children!  There is a National Grandparents Day Council and you can visit the website HERE and learn more about this holiday.

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation designating the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day "...to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children, and to help children become aware of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer."

There is even an official song for Grandparents Day, adopted in 2004 If you click HERE to see the Wikipedia entry on Grandparents Day, you can listen to a short clip of the song.
