Blogoversary Part 5 - pretty and pink

Welcome to part five of my Fourth Blogoversary Celebration.   There are just a few more days to go and the boxes are getting fuller each day.  I posted the second set of photos from the ChristmasWorld section of the trade show - if you are an email subscriber be sure to scroll down to see both posts.

Here is how the giveaway works:

Just like last year, I have three boxes that I will be filling with gifts that I'll send to three blog readers.  Each day I'll add more things to the boxes until they are full and ready to ship.  You can comment on every post until the boxes are full to maximize your chance to be chosen by random draw.  You don't have to be a follower or a subscriber to win, however, if you enjoy my blog, subscribing by email will help you make sure that you don't miss anything - just click HERE and fill in your address, then reply to the confirmation email to be added to the list.  If you prefer to "follow" you can do that by clicking "Join this site" at the top of the right side column.

If you are a subscriber or follower, you can leave another comment and have a second chance each day as a way for me to thank you for your support.  If you are a Facebook user you can also "like" the Capadia Designs page HERE and leave another comment telling me that you are a Facebook fan.

You can leave comments everyday so you will have multiple chances to be one of the three winners.  Please don't leave more than 3 on one day (1 comment, 2 follower or subscriber, 3 Facebook fan).  When you leave a comment be sure that you don't have the box checked to be notified of follow up comments so you don't get tons of emails clogging up your in box.  Please be sure to leave some way for me to contact you if you are one of the lucky three - you can leave your email address and use (at) and (dot) to help avoid spam.  The step by step directions for leaving comments can be found in THIS POST.

Remember - you can't just leave a random comment - you have to answer the question in the post (so I know you are paying attention!).

Today I have two more items for each box.  First is this set of layered Grand Adhesions from K&Company.

The second item today is a pack of pretty decorated clothespins.  I have been seeing lots of clothespins lately - from teeny tiny versions that work on a card up to these which are the typical size and would be great for holding papers together or hanging up a layout on a wire or ribbon.  I just discovered these in the bins at Michael's and thought that they were very pretty.  There are lots of coordinating products with pretty floral patterns.

Here is the question for today - be sure to answer it in a comment below.

Every crafter I know tends to accumulate a lot of "stuff" and it can be challenging to keep track of everything and to find it when you need it.  Sometimes you can get caught up in organizing instead of creating.  Of course, once your space is organized, you should be able to enjoy your crafting time and accomplish more because you won't waste time looking for things.  What is your "top tip" for staying organized - what works for you?

I noticed that some of you may have taken my question yesterday to imply that using premade items or working from sketches was somehow not being "creative enough" - I didn't mean that at all.  If you are making things and enjoying the process it doesn't really matter how you do it.  Everyone has different ideas and some things that are enjoyable for one person might not be interesting to another person.

Thanks for stopping by - I hope you have a wonderful day!

  1. The only tip I can come up with is that I pick up when I am finished crafting and put everything back where I found it and Label everything. thanks for a chanve to win, I love K&co and those clothespins are adorable.

  2. I label everything so I can see right away what is in a container or box. I also have specific spots for everything I use. So after a project, everything goes right back to where it belongs.

  5. I try to put everything back in its place when I am done but I do sometimes get caught up in the organizing! I have changed things around a few times to try to get a better set up. The other problem I have is keeping a few things set aside ready for travel as well as having things all put away for home crafting.

I have different things to organize my "stuff"...my punches are in a shoe organizer behind my door, my paper (full individual sheets) are in a paper organizer, the scraps are in a set of drawers that are labeled by color, embossing folders in another drawer, etc. While I am working on a project, things ar wall over the space, then comes the point where I have to put everything back where it belongs...lol Thanks. http://iwycd.blogspot.com/

  20. I have to have my paper organized. I have a paper organizer with hanging file folders and I separate the papers by color. This is easier for me to go through and find the paper I am looking for. I also love to label things in clear plastic boxes so I know where things are. I still need to be more organized though.

  25. I have discovered over the years that open storage is the best. I don't like visual clutter but have found that I do better when I can see my stuff. Also, I like to use binders for storing embossing folders and spellbinders dies ect.

  26. About 2 years ago I redid my scrap/computer room. While organizing things, I tried to put those items I use most closest to me. I also labeled my drawers for a quick reminder of what it holds.

  27. I have everything in labeled containers and that definitely helps me (and others) put away everything in the right spot. If I don't clean up after a creating session I am doomed the next time I want to use it. I need a better storage system for my clear stamps, help!

  28. Love, love, love those clothespins. Organized--what is organized to a crafter? My craft room is a mess right now and have to tackle it so that I can work on other projects. My tip for keeping the scrap area clean is simple...I have a very small work area - so as I use the items I put them away. I have two bins below my feet - one for garbage and one for scraps to save. I have to have a clean space to work in or else my brain wont let me work!! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  44. My top crafting tip is to put everything away each and every time I craft. That way I know where it is the next time I start a project. Always keep like things together is also a good tip. I have a space for everything, be it baskets, jars, shelves or plastic tubs but when I am working on a project....oh, my goodness, it's a big mess. However, I TRY (emphasis on try) to clean up after I complete the project so the next time I will know where everything is.

  58. The best system I have found to store my clear stamps is a clear protective sheet w/cardstock and I measure the size I need for the stamps, take it to the sewing machine and make my stitch, then using an exacto knife, cut the opening and insert my stamp! I also have a 7 plastic drawer case that I keep all my scraps labeled by color. That really keeps my space a little cleaner!

  78. Yes, I know what you mean by taking all the time to organize and no time to craft! I just re organized my craft room. I am fortunate enough to have a walk in closets with California closet shelves.
The spot that was originally intended for hanging dresses, now has 8 jet max shelving units, two stacks with for in each stack, on the floor. I sorted my 12 by 12 paper by color, and have some of the shelves filled with loose a printed papers.

The 8 1/2 by 11 are in cardboard magazine holders from Ikea. It is now so much easier to find my papers now. The leftover scraps I have in hanging folders in one of those rolling bins next to my work table.

I love it being organized and feel truly blessed. I spend lots of time in my room.

  79. My tip....keep everything in it's place. When I get something new it's either grouped with a "catergory" of items that I already have and I put it in it's place. If it doesn't fit in a catergory of items that I already have a create a new storage space and a new category of items. Any time I use something I make sure I put it back in it's place. Seems too easy but this really works for me. I'm one of those super organized people that has a "place" for everything.

  83. HAHAHAHA!!! My craft room never stays organized!! But if I followed this tip it would be easier. ALWAYS PUT THINGS AWAY AS SOON AS YOU ARE FINISHED USING THEM. Seems simple, huh? One project leads to another and punches, adhesives, stamps/pads, papers continue to build up and I have no work space. I am going to go start putting things away right now! Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I am not an organized crafter. I do get caught up in the organizing some times more than the crafting. I recently did a whole new organizing after Tiffany Spaulding's series on organization and it has helped a lot. I have good intentions to put everything away when I am done but usually I work late into the night and/or I have time restraints and don't want to take the time to put it away to just have to get it out again the next evening. I am doing better though.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Because I am new to scrapbooking, I do not have a lot of "stuff" so it is easy for me to be organized right now. After I do a project, I put everything back in place so it is there for the next project.

  87. I LOVE the things you are putting in the box today, especially the clothes pins. Great job. My best tip for staying organized is keep it in sight. If you have alot of shelves you can see what you have. Once you put it away (trying to be organized), you forget about it.

  88. I totally agree with Grandma Nancy - put the tools away when you are finished using them - this, of course, I start out with all best intentions and eventually the tools are buried under everything and I can't find them - but, this is what I think is the most important! LOL!

  93. I think the overall recommendation of putting things away is critical. I've also copied "scraplifted" your idea of a scrap island. Mine isn't as big as yours (a total of 3 4 x 4 Expedit bookshelves) but it means I can move it around and I have a place where I can stand and scrap.
I try to have all of my paper organized but I find I still fall back on solid colors and don't use nearly enough of my pattern paper. Everything goes in clear plastic bins so I can see them immediately without having to open each box.

  94. I usually have several projects I am working on at once including several different scrapbooks so putting everything away all the time dosen't always work so I store each project seperately for a while such has some heritage layouts are in one plastic container and when I was working on Christmas tags everything went into one basket that I could pull out or put away when needed, of course when done put everything back in it's own place Thanks, Sarah

  108. I like the place for everything system. Problem is, is that I'm running out of space and am starting to have a pile here and a pile there of things that need homes. My best idea for storage is large clear zip loc type bags for all my themed embellishments. I mark the outside with a sharpie pen with a category like "animals", "flowers", "halloween", etc. and store all the like items in the bags. I then prop the open topped bags standing up alphabetically into plastic dishpan type containers. These fit nicely on a set of 2 wire shelves in a closet(I have about 5 dishpan bins full of assorted bags). So I can find all my like themed items quickly. I also keep an empty bin for "to be filed" stuff for when I'm in a hurry and can't put away. Then I just take a few moments each week or so and put stuff away.

  109. I, too, find that if I move things around and don't put them back into their regular places, then I spend all my time searching. I use a lot of the plastic shoe boxes to store my various tools. This works fairly well for me.

  111. My top tip for staying organized is to just put everything back where it belongs when I am done using it. I have recently organized all of my papers, my scrap papers, and everything in between. I have stackable bins for smaller things, and I use Black and Decker stackable storage boxes for things like brads and buttons.

I know everyone is different and must find their own niche, it took me a while to find mine.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to win a great prize. I just love those pink flowers. I am a pink girl.

  112. My top tip for staying organized is to put everything away after you are done in its proper place. I don't always do that, and sometimes have to spend a day away from crafting just reorganizing my room!

After much "organizing" over and over I finally found something that works for me. As soon as a project is finished I put things away. A basket on the desk saves those bits I want to save and when the next project is started I look through it to see if things in the basket will work for that project.
I have followed for quite awhile.

  116. I work at an old office desk that has turned out to be wonderful because it has lots of drawers on both sides. I put all my small items in the different drawers ... inks, chalks, glitter in one. Embellies in another, ribbon in one, etc. It keeps everything close at hand. I also have the put together craft shelves in various shapes to keep paper, stickers, etc. I still make lots of 'messes'... especially with paper ... that I have to reorganize all the time.

  118. The best thing that works for me is to put stuff away when I'm done using it. I don't know how many times I have been faced with a cluttered desk that saps the motivation to create right out of me. I also spend way too much time looking for things when I don't put them back in their proper place.

  120. I try to stay organized by "staying organized". When I bring something into the room it finds a place immediately. When I am done the project or finish for the day I take 2 mins and tidy up. Makes it easier when I get beck in, to just start creating, not having to tidy up and then lose that time. Thanks for the awesome inspirations.

  123. I'm afraid that I don't have an organizational tip. My motto is: "Leave my mess alone! I know right where everything is!" lol I do have a table set up for just for my cuttlebug, plates, dies, and folders. Another table is set up for my cricut and work area. Thanks for the giveaway and the opportunity to win.

  125. "top tip" for staying organized: All tools and pieces are in clear shoeboxes with a label (Cutting tools, stamps, punches, adhesives, etc. Paoer is in a cabinet sorted by color or by theme. Haven't finished sorting embellishments yet, but I'm putting those in a binder on paper with removable tape sorted by category. I try to put things back after use. But despite my efforts, my craft room does look like it was ransacked! Its a 'craft cave' with piles everywhere! :)

  127. Well Diane, that's easy, there's only one way, and that's as u know to put it away asap, or after I'm done w/my project, I find that if only i put away my away items, dies, stamps, INK-Pads right a way
then the nest time (which i hope is sooner than later!)

  129. I don't have a designated craftroom, so I keep my supplies and equipment in clear shoe boxes, small clear drawers, and Snap Ware. I really like the Snap Ware because I can carry the multitiered containers around with the supplies sorted or separated. The best way though, is for me to put away after using.

  131. My problem is that I NEVER really got how do u say it OGANIZED?? for me the only thing that works is the keep things in their general area, dies in one box, and when I'm looking 4 a particular 1 then i
just go to "THE BOOK" where i keep pictures of ALL my "DONE" projects
    & then I'll know where that die's @
NOT really organized, BUT I can find what I need!

  132. 1. OK, I just go around the craftroom and tell you what I have. There are two racks that are about five feet tall that hold paper (Hobby Lobby). Plastic see through card bins to hold finished cards (Michaels). Two decorative expanding file folders to hold left over cardstock. I have written on the outside what colors are in each (Office Depot). Two white hanging shelves with Ranger Inks, glitters, prima flowers, baker's twine, ribbons, buttons, a lot of Tim Holtz distress solutions (Michaels). Two DVD holders turned up like towers that hold my Promarkers (they each have their own special place) (IKEA). Two white turn cadies that hold scissors, glues and small tools. Plastic photo holders that hold Cuttlebug emobossing folders and dies (Michaels). Two tall bookcases - one that holds more (a lot) card stock pads - and the other that holds stamps and dies (IKEA) The stamps that are still attached to wooden backings are in 1" plastic containers so they can stand up like books. On the side of the container I have marked what is in the container, ie 'Christmas', 'Mice', 'Words', etc. My clear stamps and dies I have in three ring binders inside of protective sleeves. I have marked on the rim of the binder what is inside, ie 'Peachy Keen Faces', 'Close To My Heart', 'Dies'. I have shoe boxes that hold my punches. On the outside of the box is glued an example of the die inside.

Well that has taken you around the craftroom. The inside 'U shape' where I work holds the printer, computer, Imagine, Cuttlebug, and Expression. Hope this might help someone.

  133. After visiting a friend of mine, I was able to organize so much better. My label maker is definitely a must! So my number one tip is to go visit others craft spaces to see how it works, then create your own flow.

  134. To keep organized I try to put things away as soon as I am done with a project. I find that I will use things if they are in front of me so I can see them. I try to keep stamps, inks, and other things that I use the most in front of me on my desk and other things in drawers in my desk so I can open them and see what is there. I am like everyone else and always looking for a better way! Regina

  136. Where should I start? Pens, scissors, bone folders, craft knives, adhesives are in a lazy susan. I have switched to clear stamps for storage reasons...they are in CD cases. I have 4 bookcases full of stamps, paper and cricut carts. My punches are in a shoe storage bag hung over the closet door. My room looks like a warehouse for JoAnn's or Michael's. I ALWAYS clean up after a project or I can't find anything.

  139. You ask some really thought provoking questions. I would have to say that my best organizational tip is to clean up after I am done. I share my crafting space with my work space and my boyfriend's work space. Sometimes, I just have to call time out and clean and organize the desk. It is frustrating when I can't find a tool, die cut or sticker that I know I have pulled out.

The pretty clothespins are really cool.

  140. I don't have a very big space so I have to put things away when I'm done or it can get to the place where I can't find anything! I do use a shoe organizer for my punches and a ribbon clip it up.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I limit the number of places that I can organize. In other words, I just have 1 small box with dividers for small embellies. I make myself use up my current stash of embellies in one of the little dividers before opening a new package of embellies. Thanks for giveaways! trchase at gmail dot come

  144. What a question!!! I just found embellishments in a project box that I should be using on pages I am creating now. I put a side that project in December and decided on something else. I should have put my "stuff" back where it belonged. Thank goodness I found it. Yes, organizing is a on going battle but it must be done.

  145. The way I stay the most organized is to clean up after I finish each card (or project) and the other thing, most importantly for me, is to keep my workspace clean and organized during each project. If I get too much stuff out and clutter up my workspace, I find it harder to work.

Thanks again for these great giveaways!

  148. Organized? What's that? Seriously, I'm trying to organize but I tend to quickly spread out again. The only thing that stays fairly organized is my paper stacks (on end on a shelf above my work area, sorted by plain cardstock, fancy cardstock, and printed stacks) and my stamps (sorted by type in drawers under my work area). That's about as organized as I can get right now.

  151. As you stated, once your basic organization is in place, you on the road to crafting paradise. My tip is to pick up before you mess up. Once you have finished a project, put everything back in place before beginning another. That gives me a sense of accomplishment.

  154. I have the huge problem of organizing and then re-organizing.. and not actually getting any crafting done. But lately I have gotten things where I want them. So I actually got 2 small projects done yesterday! miracle :)
My advise is to organize once then stop looking.
By the way, I think some people might have over thought your comments yesterday, crafting is so personal, any way you do it is GREAT... hand made or hand made with items that are pre-made is still crafting - Thanks for your blog! I get so many great ideas, print them - organize them for later use :)
