Color like a "Pro" - last day to join the celebration!

This week of celebration has been a lot of fun for me and, I hope it has been an exciting change for all of you as well.  I was so interested to read your comments and it seems that many of you enjoyed the chance to hear what other people thought about some of the question topics.  Today I am adding the final item(s) to the boxes and it will be the last day to leave comments for a chance to be chosen to receive one of the three boxes.  I'll cut off the time to reply at midnight today (April 12th) on the west coast (3 am Eastern Daylight time on April 13th - another "3" in the mix!).  I'll post the winners later in the day on Wednesday - I won't be able to figure it all out first thing in the morning and I need to drive to the airport so I won't be able to have the winners in the morning email (but I will post sometime on Wednesday)  If you are one of the winners I'll need you to email me with your mailing information as soon as possible.  Thanks!

We have family here visiting for a few days and I haven't been able to be on the computer as much as usual, however, the new smart phone is a big help for trying to keep up with email.  Thanks for all of the thoughtful and funny comments - and no, I wasn't put up to ask the question about collecting vs crafting by any of your husbands or significant others!  I am going to feel very lonely if you all stop commenting after the winners are drawn and I have a plan for a way to continue some discussions that I think you will like...

Today I am adding the last item - which is really 12 items (and one for good luck!).  Each box will have a set of 12 ProMarkers that were given to me by Letraset to help celebrate all of my milestones.  Two boxes will have the set pictured above with an extra fine liner pen inside and one box will have this set...

...in a plastic case with an extra blender pen.

Thanks to Letraset for providing these markers.  They recently sent me the full range of colors to work with.  Two of the sets are brand new and one of set is ever so slightly used (by me).  Instead of holding on to the extras as back up I thought it would be better to make the boxes relatively "even" and let the winners have a go with the markers.  I can't tell which of the two boxes was opened and used - they were only used a few times.  I think the markers will all last a long time.

I thought I'd list the contents of the boxes in one easy location to remind you what is inside..

Day 1 - Ciao Bella 12 x 12 stack
          Cricut Magazine (from Northridge Publishing)

Day 2 - Tipsy stylus in blue and matching lanyard (from Denise at Prime Global Enterprises)
Glitter with glue stickers  K &  Company
              Blue photo/diecut storage folder

Day 3 - Creative Charms embellishment set - different in each box   one black and white, one vintage and one colorful (from Creative Charms)

Day 4 - Creative Memories paper album kits, Creative Memories mini tape runner, Creative Memories tin with sticker paper, letter stickers and pen

Day 5 - Martha Stewart Stamp Sets (one per box)
Christmas Tree, Heart and Flower, Monogram and Frame
Three types of ribbon, glitter flowers, pink glitter dots and ladybugs

Day 6 -  Imagine printed papers (6 x 6) and sample print and cut images, imagine sunglasses, green apple tea light candle and IKEA bag (pink, blue or green)

Day 7 - set of 12 Promarkers (from Letraset)

Each box will also have a few more "secret" surprises from me - I want to be sure you have fun opening the box if you are one of the three random choices.

Instead of reposting the directions for the giveaway, I would ask that if you have just come upon this celebration week and want to start at the beginning you go to Wednesday's post HERE and work your way forward.  The rest of you already know how to play along!  You have to answer the question of the day by commenting on the blog and then you can leave an additional comment if you are a blog subscriber or follower and a third comment if you are a Facebook fan.

I know a lot of you don't use Facebook and I understand that choice.  For those of you who are on Facebook, please be sure that you "like" the Capadia Designs page (some of you are my "friend" but are not a fan on the Capadia Designs page and I don't want you to miss anything...don't worry - I plan to keep things posted on both the blog and the Facebook page so if you aren't on Facebook you won't miss much if anything.

I am still learning the technique of using the Promarkers.  Above is a wreath stamp from Hero Arts that I tried recently.  I wasn't sure how to handle the base green part and I added lots of colors - maybe too many... I am also trying out ways to use the markers for projects other than coloring in cute stamped images for cards.  I enjoy learning new skills and sharing what I learn with others.  I am a little outside my comfort zone sometimes when working on the coloring but I hope to improve with practice.  I have also looked to my friend Enfys for help - she does a lovely job with coloring and makes great cards.  You can find her at Going Buggy.

Learning a new skill or improving on a skill is a lifelong process.

Questions for Tuesday - Last Day (for now...)

What is your learning style?  What do you like to do to improve your skills and technical abilities?  When you want to learn a new technique or computer program do you prefer to read a book, watch videos on You Tube, follow step by step directions on a website or blog,  work one-on-one with someone who is an expert, watch a DVD, ask a friend for help, post on message boards and hope for reliable answers or some combination of all of these?  Are you a visual person who needs to "see" how to do it or can you follow directions from a recording or podcast?  What is at the top of your list to learn so you can make better projects?

Whew - a lot of questions again - please answer as much as you can and let me know if there are specific topics that you would like to see me discuss on the blog.

My fingers are crossed for all of you - even though I know there are only three boxes to send.  If not this time, your lucky day will come eventually!  Have a great day and Happy Crafting!

  1. Woohoo, I am so excited!

Cannot wait to see if I have won, but thanks anyway for a fun week x

  2. I like video tutorials as I find it easier to learn by either doing, or waching someone 'do'. I tend to watch videos that are on blogs although I occasionally search you tube as well (but so many come up on you tube that it often takes a while to find exactly what you are looking for). If the tutorial is a long one, I often pause the video, start attempting to do it myself and then play a bit more of the video and repeat the process until I have finished.

  3. Unlike my husband, I read instructions first! LOL! However, I also take advantage of viewing videos on YouTube and I scour the net searching for great blogs (such as yours)in hopes of gleaning as much instruction as I can for whatever it is I am trying to learn. So I guess you could say my learning style is visual, auditory and tactile.

As stated before I am a faithful follower. I also like you on FB.

  4. What a great week!!! I have enjoy all your post and ALL the questions :)
I am definitely a very visual person. I might be able to follow written instructions but would rather watch somebody and work alongside. Videos are good is like having the person there just for you.
LOVE to learn things and do believe that we learn something new everyday; whether it's a fact, a persons way of thinking, or a craft.
I would love to learn more about computers. I feel really intimidated by them; make me really nervous. Don't know how to use Word for example.
Again thanks for a great week and for your generosity!!!

  5. I am definitely a visual learner and a doer. I like to watch videos to learn new techniques and see how others put designs together. I am definitely a "scrap-lifter" first and then try my own variations.

I will refer to instructions and/or videos to learn a new program or technique but will rarely read through a complete manual. Instead I will use it as reference as needed.

I'm a visual person who needs to "see" how to do it. I can follow written directions but prefer pictures or videos.

  7. WOw, this week has gone so quickly!

I don't mind how I learn, I can follow instructions, or watch a video, but I like to consolidate the learning by doing! I guess my favourite would be a workshop style- that was I can watch, have a go and then ask questions if I need to!

Thanks so much for the chance to win!

  10. How I learn depends on what I am making. If I see a card I like, I can try to "copy" it - most of the time, it looks nothing like the original but that's okay.
If I am making something like a paper album with lots of folding parts, I prefer a visual and directions.
If I'm trying to learn DS or CM Storybook, I prefer videos.
No matter what I am trying to learn, I love the "aaahhhaaa" moment but hate the "I still don't get this" moments.
It's been a fun week. I must say I go back and read others posts too- not all of them - but lots. I really loved the color day comments.

  12. Hi! I have different learning styles for different things. If it's a computer program, I just like to hover my cursor over parts and see what they do, try them out. If it's a new crafting technique, I like to see lots of pictures. If I can't figure it out from the pictures, then I look for a video and play the video as I'm making the project myself.

Thanks for much for your generosity! I've really enjoyed playing along.

  16. I am definately a visual learner and therefore prefer videos or instructions with pictures. If there is ever an opportunity to work with an expert, I would definately jump at that opportunity also. Nothing like learning hands on. I would really love to get better with the Design Studio to improve my crafting. When I do actually take the time to create on it, I just love the results, and I know if I played with it more....oh the possibilities!

Thanks again for the fun week,

  20. I think most things (excluding anything to do with yarn) have come naturally to me. My mother was a seamstress and sewing teacher, so I had to learn to sew very early on or go naked. (The naked thing didn't work out.) Plus we were by no means well off, so we used anything we had around. At Christmas covering a toilet paper cardboard with aluminum foil and fashioning a flame made a pretend candle; and how many of you remember making carnations out of tissues? And decorative chains out of gum wrappers. I guess I first learn by doing and then go read about how someone else has already done it better!

I'm very computer illiterate so anything on the computer, my kids have to try to teach me. I am able to move around on the craft websites and blogs now and I'm obsessed! So Thanks for all your beautiful ideas!

  26. I am so sorry that this is the last day. I will keep checking in on your blog as you have such wonderful projects. When I am learning something new, I like to have step by step instructions written out. I enjoying watching video tutorials for inspiration, but, guess I am a little senile as I cannot remember all the instructions. Thanks for the chance to win and cannot wait til tomorrow.

  27. I like to watch videos when learning a new technique.

  33. WOW...I can't believe it's over. This has been great fun. I've never joined in anything like this online. I like to blog hop but never enter any contests cause I think "I'll never win" but I really found this to be ALOT of fun. So with that said...thanks for the opportunity to win. :o)
    Now, to the questions...
You Tube and I have become the best of friends...lol. I LOVE watching video tutorials. I believe I'm more of a visual learner/hands on kind of girl. But I could follow directions and I will read a booklet if I HAVE too...hee hee. As far as what's on the top of my list to make my projects better...I love my cricut. So any new little techniques or tips and tricks that I could learn, is great.

  37. Oh My Gosh Diane...My heart did a little leap in my chest when I saw the Promarkers! I have always wanted to try them and my brain is screaming "Pick Me! Picke Me!" but the demure side of me is saying, How lovely!! LOL

You are so generous and I have had a blast watching and commenting each day with each item added to the box. I promise that I am not just here for the prize, I have been a follower/subscriber for a long time and dont plan on leaving now!

I love the wreath that you colored and I dont think it has too much green at all. I think that the lightest olivey color looks like it is more of a straw type wreath underneath and I really like the striped leaves with two different colors. You really did a great job!

Before I turn this comment into a mini novel, I will answer your questions: I am definitely a You Tube junkie! When I want to learn a new technique or find out how a tool/supply works, I go straight to You Tube! After watching I immediately go and try out my new skill. When I have spare time or there is nothing good on TV, I will go watch You Tube videos and I have watched for literally hours at a time. Soooo to make my long answer longer...Im a visual and hands-on learner. At the top of my list to learn is making flowers and using them on my cards. I do not own many flowers (all were gifts) and I would love to learn how to use them on my cards so they look as fantastic as some of the cards I admire have.

Thanks again for a chance to win and I look forward to tomorrow! Sorry for rambling!!

  38. I would have to say that a combination works for me - it depends on the project. Ideally, I would have someone right beside me showing me what to do and I also learn best by doing. Also - for some things I prefer written instructions with diagrams, but at times a video tutorial works too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm very much a visual learner. I really learn best from being able to watch some one do something. The verbal helps as well along with it though. So when I want to learn a new technique to use I like to watch videos of it or a DVD. This way I can also go back rewind etc... A book is some what okay as long as it has a lot of pictures. Even when I cook I won't buy a cookbook without pictures. I want to see an end product picture of what it is supposed to look like. Thank you also for putting this challenge together it was fun. hopefully I can win one of the boxes of goodies as well. Good luck at the airport :-)

  40. WOW that's a loaded a question you have today...I really prefer a one on one or a step by step instructions.. But I have to admit I will and have tried them all.. I still need help with my gypsy I still don't have it quiet figured out... But with all things in live things change and improve...

What an excellent game this has been. I think I missed a few entries, but it sure was fun playing along.
Best of luck to all the entrants! It will be a great prize! Thanks so much Diane!

  43. I, too, am trying to get better at coloring. I've been using alcohol pens from Dick Blick and clearly don't have it down, yet. It certainly is a new challenge for me.

When I want to learn I like a combination of many different forms. I will ask the question on my blog, check message boards, watch YouTube videos and read step-by-step directions. Then, I will try it myself. I learned a lot about Design Studio from your posts and my trial and error.

Thank you for all of your help and the wonderful giveaway you are doing. I know what you mean about loving the comments. It is wonderful to know people are reading and care about what you are doing.

I've recently taken a class on blogging for scrapbookers. I thought it was great because it made me think about my blog in a whole new way. I must say, I've recently started doing some online classes and I'm finding them very helpful and interesting.

Thank you for your wonderful blog and the giveaway.

  50. I am definately a visual person - need to see what is being talked about to understand. And that leads to the fact that I learn new techniques best when I watch a you tube video, see a live demonstration or at least have step by step directions. 57. Woohoo! Last day! So as for learning goes, I am definitely a visual person... though I will watch videos, sometimes they are long and it seems they are taking away from time I could be crafting. Instead I prefer to just see what people have made, try my best to recreate and in most cases put my own spin on it :) My biggest struggle and thing to work on is doing more layering and accessorizing. I know these little details, even embossing, can completely change the look of a project... so this is what I am trying to work on - embellishments and small details :) Thanks so much!!

  66. I learn from various methods. I love watching videos from people like Joy at Obsessed with scrapbooking. She taught me how to do etching on glass with her video. I love Creations with Christina and she has taught me a lot when it come to mini albums, and of course YOU taught me a lot about Design Studio which I used for years before I bought a gypsy. I was a late bloomer with the gypsy and waited until all the bugs were worked out and they were reasonable. I can also follow step by step directions and have done that for things like the exploding boxes or easel cards. The most recent thing I learned was how to make those awesome bodies on butterflies over at the Circle Blog on April 6th. I was able to recreate them with no problems for a layout I was working on. No scrapper has ever "arrived" and we continue to learn from all sorts of methods. I would love to see you do acrylic mini albums and teach us the little secrets to good ones. They are so popular right now and look great if done right.

  81. I really like to watch videos & you tube to learn new crafting techniques--and ways to use things I could do so much more with (like my expression & gypsy). I also use books--as long as there are good pictures to check myself with. I think in pictures, so if it's just auditory, the speaker better be teaching in a way that I can create a picture of it or I'm in trouble (maybe that's why I struggled in advanced econ classes in college :-)).

  83. If I want to learn something new or perfect a technique I prefer printed instructions to videos. I will either print it from the website or find it in a magazine. I will watch videos if that is the only way I can find the info...but that isn't my preference. Sometimes trial and error works also. If it's something I really want to learn I will find a way!

I have also used message board for computer issues and also things for my cricut. Thanks so much for the great goodies you are sending out this week. Can't wait to see I won!!! LOL

  87. This week has been a blast. I'm like a little kid Oh what will go in the box next? It's been fun even if I don't win.
To answer some of the questions I am a visual learner, I get my inspiration from seeing tutorials, videos, and youtube. I also look at ehat people post and try to duplicate it in my own way. I will attend a class but when the class is over you have to remember everything, on a video you can hit replay.

  88. Before the day passes me by, I will post my 2nd comment and answer the questions. Well, I'd have to say that visual and step by step instructions for me are best. As someone else stated, after that, I can "do my own thing" once I learn the basics. I love blogs like yours that give details and explain so clearly. I recently attended a Stamp Camp with SU and some of my friends. Loved it! I believe I will become a regular there.
At the top of my list, I definitely want to learn how to use the promarkers and learn to color and blend. I have many older stamps that need dusted off and now I am buying a few new ones. I have seen samples of cards done with these markers and they look awesome! Thanks again for a fantastic website and blog. Keeping my finger crossed!

  90. I guess I would have to say that I am a visual learner--I love to watch YouTube videos dealing with techniques, but I also like to look at pictures and figure it out. If all else fails, I will read. Thanks for all you do for the world of paper crafting!

  91. I like to watch videos to learn new techniques. We have a group of ladies that meet monthly for our scrapbooking / card making crop and the leader sometimes show us a new technique.
On computer programs, I like to explore it and if I need help I can read the manual (which is rare) or use the help area of the program.
Thank you for the chance to win one of these boxes. As a follower, I look forward to receiving the e-mail from you every morning to see what you have to share with us.

I am a follower, LIKE you on FB, and think that this week has been a blast!

Learning style: visual and verbal but I also like to follow written directions as long as there is plenty of white space separating instructions. HA!

Thanks for this great opportunity to win as I love everything in the boxes!

  102. My favorite techniques for learning are to watch videos and then to use it while I'm working with my scarppin friends! I have to do things over and over ( and sometimes over again ) before they stick....but love learning the new things! Thanks Diane for always sharing with us and for the chance to win...it's been fun this week!

  103. Yippee! The last day...the suspense has been building. To learn a new technique, I like to have a manual handy so that I can read along. Following along on a Webisode is helpful too. Having a friend to show you is good...but...nothing beats trial and error. Learn, learn, learn

  106. I love to learn a new technique! When I see a project with something I haven't tried, I do a quick little project to try it out. That might explain the sewing machine that mysteriously turned up in my craft room this week! Now if I can only find my box of thread spools....hmmmm

  112. I would like to be able to learn more about coloring techniques. Using markers, pencils, inks and chalks to make images really standout. I am also currently learning how to make handmade flowers. I usually work best with step by step instructions to begin with but then once I have the technique down...look out. I will take that to my own ream and the possibilities are endless. After I've learned something I pay it forward and teach at our local library. I would love to see help on both coloring and flower making. Thanks for ALL THAT YOU DO! If I cannot read many blogs on a day, yours is always at the top of my list! I am one of "those" people who can learn how to do something usually just by seeing it, holding it in my hands or by reading the directions. I love to learn new techniques -- and like most recipes I use, I'll do it the way its written the first time and then I make it my own with adjustments.

I learn though doing challenges, which bring me out of my comfort zone, but also, by scraplifting from friends, if there is something I do not know how to do, I will go on line and research it, finding information, and videos, then try it out to see if I can get the same result.

Thanks so much for your blog, I enjoy it very much

  146. This is such an awesome giveaway!!! I didn't realize how many great products you were including AND each and everyone of them is one I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO HAVE!!!! As for the question today, I think I tend to be a visual person and I like to use videos 'cause I can always replay them if I get stuck. Second would be some of the awesome tutorials with the directions and the corresponding pictures!! No matter which I use I do a LOT OF "LIFTING" of ideas 'cause I'm "creativity challanged" - LOL!

As for not letting my husband know if I'm a collector or creater - I've got such a long way to catch up to what he has spent on "golf trips" and toys like motorcycles that I can "collect" even after I've departed this beautiful earth - ROFLMAO!!!!

    Thanks again,

  151. Good Morning :) I learn best by actually doing something with a guide/instructor etc. This can be in person or by videos or DVD instruction as long as it is step-by-step. I have learned a lot of new techniques from blogs that have video tutorials. As my Mom always says, "learning is a lifetime process." For me, each day brings something new and fun. 154. I am definately a hands on and visual person. I would rather have someone show me how to do something even if it's in a video. Here's an idea for the Promarkers I saw somewhere that someone used the Sharpie markers to color a design tat had been cut out of vinyl on the cricut. Before the lifted the design or waste cut from the mat they colored the image in with the markers. Maybe you could try that! :)

  155. Thanks for sharing your creativity and talent with us everyday and for the opportunity to win some amazing prises! I'm always amazed by your posts.

Reading your blog is one of the ways I learn new techniques. Then I buy the supplies and practice. Sometimes it takes me hours to make a card when I'm trying to learn a new technique. Some techniques become a standard and some I never try again but I think it's still a learning experience.

  156. I am very much a visual learner and I love the step-by-step tutorials. Videos are great, too, but if I don't catch on to a step right away, I have to play it over until I do whereas I can just linger on a single step instruction until I get it. I do love the videos for getting to know other bloggers' personalities, though. Your blog candy boxes are amazing and will give a real boost to 3 lucky winners. Your posts are wonderful and I enjoy everyone of them!

  160. I prefer to learn in person, but, that's kinda hard to do (& can get expensive if you're taking classes). I really like step by step videos. I'm a visual person so seeing the pics along with the instructions makes a huge difference for me. My fav kind of teacher is one who doesn't forget to include the "obvious" details...I don't know that it's obvious because I'm just learning. I NEED to learn some basic photo editing skills so that I can have "better" pics to work with w/o having to ask my DH &/or DS for help (red eye removal, resizing pics for example).

  165. I am definitely a visual learner. I need to see videos or images of hands "doing" the work! I love pdf's as well as they explain in words, but nothing beats a good video tutorial. Sometimes it is about watching the technique, other times you get to see how the medium works (paints, watercolors, copics etc) and other times I observe how the hand manipulates the medium- so for me, it is moving images- videos - that help me learn. Then, I am also a kinesthetic learner, I need to "do" it to feel that I have what I have watched others do. I know I have it when my body tells me I do!
