Let the Celebration Begin - 6th Blogoversary!

A little over six years ago I started this blog as a way to share the designs I created in the (then new) Cricut Design Studio software.  Many different machines and software programs and lots of other topics have gradually found their way to these pages, but I still enjoy sharing my projects and helping other people learn how to get the most out of their crafting tools.  Thank you to everyone who reads my blog - whether you have been with me from the early days or just found this blog today.  I hope you find lots of inspiration and help here!

It's time to start the blogoversary party!

As in the past, I have three boxes that I will be filling with gifts and I will send one of the boxes to three lucky blog readers.  During February, there will be at least seven days when I will add things to the boxes until they are full and ready to ship.  Starting with this post, you can comment on every post until the boxes are full to maximize your chance to be chosen by random draw.

This year I am starting off the boxes with a pack of 12 x 12 Core Couture cardstock by Core'dinations.  I will be photographing things in the large square boxes but actually shipping everything in the medium box because the paper pack has the extra hanging tab area and won't fit neatly in the square box.

samples of Core Couture from my stash

I  have used this cardstock for years.  It is very sparkly and adds a lot to any project.  The glitter is embedded in the cardstock and does not come off when you cut it or brush it with your fingers.

These packs contain 20 sheets of Core Couture in 20 colors.  I did not want to open the nice new packs that I bought for the prize boxes so I can't tell you the names of all 20 colors inside but I am sure you will love them!

Here is one example of a project I made using this cardstock.  Click on the image or HERE to see the original post.

Here is one more example of this sparkly cardstock in action - you can find the post about this design HERE.

So - how can you win one of the three boxes?

There are three ways to enter...

First entry:

I am starting a new email newsletter.  This will be where I share free designs and files and other special items of interest with my readers.  One of the winners will be drawn from the list of my newsletter subscribers.

To sign up please complete the form at the top right of this page and click submit.  You will receive an email asking you to verify that you signed up - once you do that, you will be on my email list for the newsletter.  This list is different than the feedburner subscription which sends new posts to your email account nearly every day.  If you still want to receive daily emails, please don't cancel that subscription.

Second Entry:

I have a Facebook Page for Capadia Designs that has been pretty quiet but I am planning to start posting more on that page and I'd like to see more people participating there.  If you are a Facebook user you can "like" the Capadia Designs page HERE and then leave a comment here on the blog telling me that you are a Facebook fan.  Comments on the Facebook page are great to read but the winners will be drawn from the comments left here on the blog.

Third Entry:

Just leave a comment on this blog post or any blog post between now and the day the boxes are filled and that will give you a chance, even if you don't subscribe to the new newsletter (but I hope you will) or "like" the Facebook page.

You can leave comments every day so you will have multiple chances to be one of the three winners.  Please don't leave more than 2 on one day (1 regular comment, 1 to say you are a Facebook fan - I will have the newsletter list so you don't need to leave a comment to tell me that you have subscribed).

When you leave a comment be sure that you don't have the box checked to be notified of follow up comments so you don't get tons of emails clogging up your in box.  Please be sure to leave some way for me to contact you if you are one of the lucky winners - you can leave your email address and use (at) and (dot) to help avoid spam.

Sounds pretty easy, right?

There is one catch - you can't just leave a random comment - you have to answer the question in the post (so I know you are paying attention!).

The first question is...

There is a new Cricut machine, the Explore, that will be debuting on HSN on February 12th.  What have you seen or heard about this machine and are you interested in adding it to your crafting tools?  Why or why not?

Thanks for your support over the past six years - good luck!

  2. Yes I am looking forward to the Cricut Explore. If I understand it correctly, I can still use all my cartridges but do designs that the Cricut couldn't do.

    1. Hi Nancy, I have high hopes that this machine will combine all of the things I like to do (design my own, print and cut, etc.) I am also interested to see the demonstrations of the various materials it can cut.

  3. If I could sell 3 of the 4 Cricuts I have, plus a brand new Cameo I would buy this new machine. I also have been sick so I haven't crafted in a while'. I do want to get back to it soon. DawnRI

    1. Hi JoAnn - I have multiple machine but I am still intrigued by the possibilities of this new machine...I love the Cameo but it sounds like this will cut more materials...I suppose it depends on what items they include in a bundle to tempt people at the launch!

  6. I usually read your post with my morning coffee. I'm often learning so much that my day's routine gets quite a delay. I'll consider the Explore if my Expession crashes. I have lots of cartridges but am intrigued by the new features. PC though doesn't have a great reputation for delivering promises in a timely fashion. We'll see how it goes with the Explore. caroleewin at roadrunner dot com.

    1. Hi Carolee - I am sorry to disrupt your routine but I hope you are having fun! My routine is so disrupted that I'd have to say it is non-existent...but I love what I do. I have been frustrated by PC promises that took a long time to happen in the past - maybe this time they will get it all together. I hope so because there are some features of this machine that sound really good to me!

  7. The Core Couture paper looks amazing! I've heard about the Explore (from you and others) but I don't believe I'll be buying it anytime soon. The necessary computer hookup and the price are the main reasons I won't be adding it to my crafting tools. I would love to see it in action, though, and am hoping one of my local stores will demo it at some point.

    1. Hi Cheryl - I love the Core Couture paper - it dresses up any project (that's why I got it for the giveaway boxes - I like to share my "finds" with others!). I have a laptop so it isn't too difficult for me to use a computer with a die-cutting machine but I am sure that many people don't have room for a machine and a computer in their crafting space. They say there will be an app for an iPad later this year - that might work out well for some people. I think it is supposed to be in stores sometime in March.

  12. Sorry I didn't finish reading before I commented. I have seen the new explore but no I will not add it to my craft room. I feel that provo craft is still limiting us to using only their products. I have the expression and love it but it will be my last provo craft product.

  13. Congrats Diane on your blog anniversary. I love your blog. I like your post on the historical dates of your town. I like hearing the history of it and seeing the statues through your pictures. It makes me feel like I am right there. I also like your blog because you teach us relevant and interesting techniques. I am excited about the New Cricut Explore because I think it will cut more precise and a large variety of materials and I also like the double head pen and cut feature. I would really have liked to play with the new software before deciding weather to buy, though. Will be up watching tomorrow night. I had like you along time ago on facebook.

  14. My thoughts on the Cricut Explore is they are trying to keep up with the Silhouette machines. I can't afford another cutting machine. I enter all the giveaways I can to win so I don't have to purchase. If I had the money, I would buy everything.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I subscribed to you new newsletter. Can't wait to see what you have to say.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I will not be purchasing the Explore at launch. I prefer to wait and see if they do as they say when the second quarter comes around and if it cuts as well as they say it does. I have a Silhouette Cameo and the Anniv. E2 at present.

  17. Hi Diane, I've been a 'follower' for some time now and I'm always impressed with what you have to share. As for the Cricut Explore, I only read a little about it and there was some confusion as to what programs were needed to make it work best. I recently bought the ScanNCut, so no new machine for me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm unsure of the new machine. If I had an unlimited budget I would get it for sure. I have never cut my own designs so I'm not sure I need to do that. Excited to see what people start making.

  22. I'm intrigued by the Cricut explore but I just got the cameo for Christmas that I can't believe I haven't taken out of the box yet :(. I'm in the middle of planning a bridal shower, grad party, and after prom breakfast and I'm afraid that I don't have the time to learn new software.
Congrats on your anniversary ... Always look forward to your projects :)

  23. Congrats on 6 years! Been a long-time follower. In addition to creativity, you give a great dose of home. I'm curious but cautious about the new machine. I hope it pans out.

  24. The new Explore sounds interesting, but I have 3 Cricuts now, and have been a bit disappointed with the way PC drops the ball on product support. Par ex, I'm still waiting on the promised upgrades for the buttons on my original E! And all the "additional" features that should have been added by now to my E2. Live and learn; but I'll probably bite the bullet and buy the Explore. I'll just wait awhile to hear everyone's opinions from the initial sell.

  27. As for the new Cricut machine, no, I won't be buying it - for several reasons, the main one being that I almost never use the one I already have! I really the Cricut for cutting titles for scrapbook pages but am not in love with the fonts in the few cartridges I own (I never could find the Plantain Schoolbook cartridge, which is the one I most wanted :-( ). The other big reason is space - we live in a small 1760s house with exactly ONE :-D closet!!

  28. I have 3 Cricut Machines and now the Cameo, so while I like the ability of using both computer design/cartridge in one machine, I don't think I can justify another cutting machine. Happy 6th Blogoversay!!!

  29. Congratulations on your 6th Blogoversary. Wishing you many more years and also looking forward to those years.
Honestly; I don't pay all that much attention to the new machines that are coming out.
I do have a fairly new Cricuit machine (used twice)along with unopened cartridges that I very, very seldom used. I wish now that I would had saved my money and never bought it.

Will be watching the HSN show on this product. Not so crazy about the fact that my Imagine carts. won't work with it. And have not been able to tell if my gypsy will hook up to it or not. Will be watching HSN to see what is said and how the print & cut will come into being.

I don't like the fact that my Imagine cart's won't work....why not..if they are going to have print and cut feature???? Will wait and see.... 50. Thanks for sharing your creativity. I am a facebook fan as of today. I have heard about the new Cricut Machine Explore (saw online demo from CHA) but I will not be purchasing. I have a long memory of what went on with the 3rd party software lawsuits etc., plus I like my Cameo and Pazzle. The next machine in my future is the Zing.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I have a cricut already, unless this new machine gets really good reviews and fantastic support from Provo Craft, I'll not purchase it. I am upset that ProvoCraft sued Make the Cut and Sure Cuts a Lot, so they could bring out their own software. I imagine they have harvested some of the ideas of the other programmers.

  56. Hi Diane, I've been a Facebook fan for quite a while. Read and heard about the new Explore. With 2 Expressions, a Gypsy and the Cameo which I'm loving, not sure if I'll buy the Explore. I'm sure it will be a very tempting package on HSN with Anna Griffin, etc. I'm intrigued how the sketch pen and blade work together and hope they show how that looks. At your suggestion, I've spent several hours at the Silhouette Youtube channel and have learned so much. Thank you, thank you, I'm now creating and using more of its capabilities than ever. Also have the Studio Designer software so can use .svg and .jpg files from other companies you've recommended. Love, love it! Thank you for all you share on your blog, Happy Anniversary! Jan

I have heard about the new machine from you and I will not be adding it to my crafting tools. First of all, I have been very disappointed in the service from PC and from my current machines, their redemption of points, their discontinuing the Gypsy and support of the gypsy. I do not have a craft room or space. I have to plop it on my dinning table or my coffee table and do not have the ability to have it connected to a computer. (That is why I love my Gypsy.) I have over 125 cartridges that I have invested in and I feel really let down my the company.

  66. Hey Diane~
Thank you so much for all the detail you include in your projects & posts. Happy Blogoversary!
I received the Create from my family as a Christmas present years ago but found I was not efficient in my paper cutting and I didn't get really clean intricate cuts. When I received the E2 as a gift from Provo Craft, I found I really liked the screen where I could see where to cut but still don't get the clean intricate cuts. I really only use it with the Craft Room since the screen is bigger. The Mini I received from Provo Craft is really nice to take to a crop, if the internet is working. So the Explore intrigues me since it is supposed to cut very detailed images and I like the draw/cut feature but am not sure I want to have another machine ... still thinking ... wish I had a bigger store credit with Cricut.com

  69. I enjoy all of the crafting info you share. I have the cricut and just bought a cameo. I don't think I'll be buying the new machine. I might have considered it if they had come out with it sooner or allowed the CCR to use SVG cuts. I like the ability to cut any image and design also with the Silhouette design studio. I'm just learning all of the features and capabilities.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm going to try this again. (last time it said it couldn't post) I am very leery of PC's online programs. When I finally started using and somewhat liking CCR it did not last long. After a few short months my E2 and CCR would no longer play together. Almost all of my carts were linked to my Gypsy (and of course they would always be around) so That did not work. After my G wouldn't update anymore it quit working with my E2. So lets see, hmm...a new Cricut machine. Will I buy it when it comes out...no! It will be a big wait and see. I think being able to use carts and SVG's is a wonderful idea but don't have a lot of faith in it being dependable. Now I think the perfect machine would be if Silhouette made one that used Cricut carts and all the onlne stuff. That would be a perfect machine and I would buy it in a flash!

  86. I already own 2 cricuts & a cameo silhouette so I don't believe I'll be purchasing the new machine until I hear more about it. I mostly just cut paper so what I have works for me. Sounds like maybe after all these years, PC finally listened to what we have wanted for so long. Thanks for everything you share with us. I look forward to your daily posts.

  87. The Explore was announced just days after I received my Cameo. So no new machine for me. I also still use and love my E2 with Gypsy, and all my carts. I am curious however to see how it works and how people like it.

  88. Hi Diane, I am following you on facebook and have been a subscriber and reader of your post since the very beginning. I think I have every one of your older cricut DS cut files! I use a zing now mostly and use MTC because the program is so good but I still read your blog and love your photos and posts. I am not interested in the new PC product because I am happy with my Zing. Thanks for sharing so many ideas over the past 6 years. Rosie

  89. I will not be purchasing the new Cricut. I already have a good cutter (Zing) with even better design software (MTC). Cricut has not given a compelling reason to make me want to switch.

  94. Congrats on the 6th year of many to come!! I Love my E2 machine but am excited to see the Explore, mainly for the precise cutting, Hubby already gave permission to get it , he is a gem...lol That gltter paper is gorgeous !!! I want some !!!! Have a great day !!!!

  95. Congratulations!!! I've watched all the teasers on the Cricut Explore and understand it can draw and cut at the same timewhich is intriguing. I own 4 Cricuts, 1Cameo and 1 eClips. I won't be buying anymore Provo Craft products until I make sure the machine is of high quality, can actually cut a true circle and Provo Craft will provide adequate customer service,
something that has been sadly lacking in the past. I understand they have made improvements and I am in
the wait and see mode. I hope it's a great machine. It certainly looks nice.

  97. I have heard that the new Explore will cut svg files, and that it will cut a TON or materials. Also have heard that it supposedly cuts round shapes ROUND, not sort of oval. I'm not real clear about how the Monthly Subscription Plan works. I'm definitely interested in the Explore, but would want to wait until the dust settles and have read comments from new users before I decide to drop a large chunk of change on it!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Congrats on your six years, you've done a good job. I am a fan on Facebook, and enjoy you daily e-mails...love your pictures.
I've seen, and read, just about everything that has come out on the Explore, but I am not really sold. I love my Expression, CCR, and Design Studio. Cameo has, and can do, especially if you want detail, and most importantly, SVG cuts, from anyone. Had Provocraft not been so selfish, my feelings may be different. Now they are trying to make up for it, yet, there is a white paper that states a fee for SVG cuts, so, although they did change the copy on the front advertising, it was not changed on everything. Besides, Sizzix has the new eClips 2, which will be going Bluetooth in the fall, and they have been recommended by several SVG companies. I will keep buying my cartridges, working on CCR, designing on DS, and using my Cameo.

    ReplyDelete
  99. The new Cricut Explore looks like a great machine but since I already have a regular Cricut and a Silhouette Cameo I don't plan to add this new machine. Although, I really like the option of drawing and cutting at the same time.

  100. Wow, a lot of comments. Good for you! I did "like" your facebook page and have joined you blog. Your e-mails have been coming to me for quite sometime and are always enjoyed. As for the Cricut Explore, you have given me most of the information since the release of its coming. I like that it will cut and draw at the same time. I have a Silhouette now, purchased for Christmas. So not too sure I would invest in a like machine. I wish we would have known before Christmas, may have changed my thought process. Will wait and see about purchasing one after "bugs" have been worked out. The Provo Craft customer service has not been the best. Thanks for all your sharing. Kim kimstamps at juno dot com

I like the cut and draw feature of the Cricut Explore and will wait to purchase until the bugs are worked out and Provo Craft has a better reputation for their customer service. Also, would have liked to have known about the Explore before asking for a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas to have the chance to compare and make a choice. Thanks for all your sharing. (I did post once, or thought I did, sorry if duplicate)

  103. I'm leery of buying anything when it first comes out. I'll watch and wait about the Cricut Explore. I do like the fact that you can use cut files with it. Happy Anniversary! I liked your Facebook page and subscribed to your new newsletter.

  104. I have heard of the new Explore, and I am interested in the fine cutting, the print/cut feature and the cutting of other things than paper light chipboard and stamp material. I have owned an Expression and I hated it - too expensive to buy all of the cartridges for just a couple of images. My husband bought me a Cameo for Christmas 2 years ago - and I've never looked back. I will watch the debut and it may change my mind. We'll have to see how it goes.

  105. All I really know about the Explore is what you have and Joy have posted on your Blogs. I don't plan to buy it any time soon, maybe if my Cricut dies.

  106. I am very excited for the Cricut Explore. I love the way I can use the font from my computer and write on my cards or scrapbook pages. Might wait until most of the bugs are worked out before buying. Can't wait to read your newsletter and will be checking out your blog.

  108. Diane Happy Blogoversary! I have learned so much from your blog and look forward to them every day. You don't know how much help you have been with my Cricut machines. I just got a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas so will wait to see if the Cricut Explore is equal to or better. I did see that it will cut SVG files. So that is a plus and the fact that I can still use my cartridges with the explore. Looking forward to the newsletter. Mary Lou in NC

  109. Diane, Happy Blogoversary! I have followed your blog for years and have learned so much about my Cricut machines from you. I have just gotten a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas so I think it will be a while before I get a Cricut Explore. I realize that I can use the SVG files and my cartridges with the new Cricut Explore but will wait and see if it is better than or equal to the Cameo. Looking forward to your new newsletter. 110. I will not get the new Cricut machine. Then I'd have no use for Cricut that I do have. I can't justify the expense ( or storage space) for two machines. I think the Silhoutte machine is more popular and has more support.

  111. I am a Facebook fan and have been for some time. Thanks for all your great tips.

  112. The Cricut Explore looks like Cricut is trying really really hard to compete with Silhouette. I started out as a Cricut user, and have spent a fortune on hundreds of cartridges; but now that I have a Silhouette, I don't think I'll ever go back - no matter how hard they try.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Congratulations on your Blogoversary. I have been a huge fan (and follower) of yours for quite some time. Unfortunately, I no longer want to invest in Cricut products. I have spent oodles and oodles of money on Cricut products to then have problems with some of them and can't get help resolving the issue. I I own a Cameo and just love it. So for the time being, I will use my old Cricut Expression and cartridges and my Cameo.

  115. Congratulations on 6 years! I have enjoyed your blog entries! As far as the Explore is concerned, I will not be buying it anytime soon. Like some others, I want to see if PC lives up to its promises. I am also VERY disappointed that I would not be able to use my gypsy with it...although, I have not used my Cricut since I got a Cameo last April.

  116. Congratulations! I think WE should be gifting you for all you share with us so generously! Thank you, Diane! Well, I am signed up for the newsletter, and have liked you on FB, now to answer your question about the Cricut. Everything I have learned about it came from you, Joy or Melanie. I know that PC is attempting to catch up to Silhouette with its ability to fine detail cut, stamp and cut, as well as use download files. However, I will not be buying it. I just ordered a Cameo with the money I made from selling most of my cartridges. I look forward to being cartridge free! I wish PC well but I have been burned by their poor customer service and made a vow not to support them ever again with my money.

I have heard about the new Cricut Explore from my bloggers but it's not something that I would order. PC needs to fix the products that we have already purchased and stand by their customers who have spent thousands of dollars already. They are just too consumed with spitting out new products and filling us with false promises.

  149. Happy Blogaversary Diane! I have learned a lot from you and I love the detail in your projects. I just wished you would share some of your cut files! I too was intrigued by the Explore and I had no intentions of purchasing one since I am still learning my cameo. Then there was a problem, I saw all the Anna Griffen content was included. 160. After years of being a huge supporter of Provo Craft's products and always having great experiences with my machines and customer service support, I have become very disappointed. I have followed for years as customers had asked for compatability with SVG files and then along came the Make The Cut legal issues. I feel as though Provo thought they had the monolopy on the market and did nothing for years. Many companies have decided to take the technology and run with it. I've followed the comments and reports on the Silhouette Cameo since it was first introduced and finally made the plunge. I love this product and all of its capabilities! Athough I still love my cricut expression and will continue to use it with the many carts I own, my go to is to Silhouette. I hope Provo stands behind this new machine and follows through on it's promises to its customers.
