Family and Friends

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you may remember that our neighbors had a devastating house fire over a year ago.  Their house was taken down and is nearly rebuilt.  During the construction they have been able to rent the house right next door to ours so I see them even more than I did when they were in their original house.

I sometimes pop over for an hour or two so that Lori can help at school or take one of the children to the doctor.  The twins have grown so much - from babies to toddlers and I enjoy spending time with them and their older brother and sister.  I was there Monday and when I got home, Lori sent me a message to tell me her son said that it's fun to have me as part of the family - very cute!

I wanted to work on my layout for the Take Out Box Challenge tonight.  I decided to do it digitally since my craftroom is in a state of confusion because I am still sorting everything.  I was thinking about the subject to choose when I found this quote in my Creative Memories Digital set called "Expressions of Those We Love" and it just seemed to fit.

The best part of life is when you family becomes your friends, and your friends become your family.  Danica Whitfield

We have lived in many places, including eight years overseas in England and Germany. When we were expatriots, we found out how quickly friends can become your family as you adjust to the challenges of a new location.

I used my Creative Memories Storybook Creator Plus 3.0 software to create this layout.  I took a bit of a shortcut by importing the photo of the box top, enlarging it to the 12 x 12 page size and then adding digital shapes to fit the various areas. The series of lines that looked like a journaling spot to me so I rotated the design 90 degrees from the photograph to make them horizontal.

I kept adding shapes to fit the takeout box design until I had a "sketch" that looked like this.  I set about adding patterns and colors using the Cheerful Power Palette and the Cheerful Spring Additions.  I was almost true to the "sketch" of the box design - I did eliminate two dots that would fall in a photo space and placed the larger circles behind the photos.

I hope that some more of you will have a chance to try this challenge.  I'll be visiting all of the posted links tomorrow to see the details of the various projects.  Please go to THIS POST for the complete explanation and directions about how to join the challenge and post your project.  You do not need a blog to participate.  The challenge closes tonight.

I'll be working on a card to meet this challenge as well and should post it tomorrow...if all goes well!

Thanks for accepting the challenge - please let me know if you'd like me to post more challenges in the future.  I decided to let the current discussion topic stay until tomorrow and I'll add a new topic that will run for a week and a half on Thursday.

We are Mr Bill and Miss Mary Ann to them and my husband is the popsicle man! They are all as close as family and we adore them. I love your take out box and the layout you designed. You are so very talented Diane.
