Laurel Punch Around the Page Card #5

This card uses the Punch Around the Page set without punching all the way around the card stock.  Since the required dimensions do not perfectly fit an A2 card and I usually make A2 cards, I tried a different idea.

I cut a mat for the card at the typical 4 x 5 1/4 inch size which would normally leave a 1/8 inch border around the mat.  Then I punched one corner and two sides of the mat and adhered it flush to the edge and the top of the inside of the card.

I did the same for the top of the card but aligned the mat in the opposite corner.  I added a layer of patterned paper cut at 3 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches.  I inked the edges of the patterned paper in brown.  The paper is from the Martha Stewart Playground 12 x 12 paper pack.

I chose the word "Thanks" from the Gypsy Wanderings cartridge (one of the preloaded cartridges on the Gypsy that has great word art).  I adapted it to fit the space with the Gypsy, adjusting the width to 4.25 inches and the height to 2.5 inches.  I used a guide rectangle to show the space I had available for the sentiment and make it easy to get the size right.

The word does not stand out enough against the busy patterned paper so I added a shadow cut in the same ivory cardstock as the punched mat.  The word and the card base are cut from brown Core'dinations cardstock.

I had to adjust the shadow to fit the adapted word but the end result is worth it - the "thanks" is loud and clear after adding the shadow.

This offset border gives a very simple card an interesting twist - I always like to see something unexpected!

  1. This is really neat! I am loving this laurel punch work you doing. I like the color combination on this card. I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable with ivory and with the white flowers, but it looks great. That's why I like to read your posts. I learn so much and get inspired to step out of my comfort zones. Splendid work. TFS.
