Cheerful Seasons Skate Card

This card is made with another of the great seasonal cuts on the Creative Memories Cheerful Seasons cartridge.  I have several friends with children who do figure skating and a card like this would be lovely to send to a skater.

The card base is a plain white A2 card (8 1/2 x 5 1/2 folded in half to form a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inch card).  I had some of this pastel snowflake vellum left from a few years ago when it was a Creative Memories holiday open house item.  I cut strips to fit the card front and adhered them.  I was happy to find that my ATG adhesive did not show through.

The ice skate is in the "winter" row of the keypad.  There are four layers using the shift and the layer function keys.

In Design Studio I set up all four cuts on the same mat.  I placed the cuts near the center axis to make it easy to place the paper and also to avoid the "no-cut zone" at the edges of the mat.

Here are all the pieces.  I used a dark gray for the shadow, silver metallic for the blade layer (it looks white in this photo), black for the heel and sole of the boot and pink Core'dinations Gemstone cardstock for the top layer.

I added lots of foam squares to raise the skate from the card surface.

In this close view you can see how the slight lift provided by the foam squares adds interest to the card.

Here is the skate placed straight on the card front.  It looks rather dull and the white lines between the strips of vellum are distracting - overall this looks boring to me!

By placing the skate at an angle the overall effect is much more pleasing.  The white line on the left is mostly hidden and there is a feeling of motion.  The card still looks unfinished and needs some embellishments to bring it to life.

I looked in my stash of Creative Charms gems and found that the smallest size of gradient gem stickers was a perfect fit for the lacing holes on the skate.  Every set of gradient gem stickers ends with a row of clear "diamonds" so I have plenty of these to work with.  I found the iridescent snowflakes in the Winter Medley and added a medium size gem sticker to the center of each snowflake.

The added bling makes the card nice and sparkly.  There is room at the bottom right for a sentiment to be added - I am not sure when I will send this card so I decided to wait to add one (or I could send it as it is).

It is tricky to capture the effect of the iridescent snowflakes in a photo - they are very shiny with a pink tone that makes them perfect for this card.
