Christmas Around the Clock - Joy, Love, Peace cards

I hope a lot of you are having fun playing along with the Christmas Around the Clock challenges at the Cuttlebug Challenge Blogspot.  This is the 10:00 p.m. challenge.

I created a file for an aperture card with the words "peace, love and joy" stacked to form a Christmas tree shape.  I used the shadow version for the card front and then wanted to cut layers for the words.  Instead of just cutting them straight across the page, I created a secondary design so I could use the leftover piece to create a second card.

The aperture card is created using an element from the From My Kitchen cartridge that is meant to be a recipe card. I rotated the shape and welded it to a plain rectangle to form the card base.

The words are from the Winter Woodland Cricut cartridge.  I used the shadow version to weld to the card frame.

When I added the regular words for the layers I decided to set up the cut so I would have a usable design for another card.

I added some tiny holly leaves to fill in a few blanks spaces and finish out the design,.

This is a very open front aperture card and it needs a liner to fill the space and to create a place to add a message inside.

I used the Lace Tree Cuttlebug folder for the liner.  I wanted to emphasize the tree shape formed by the stacked words.

I kept the card simple but you could add doodling or Stickles and gems to dress it up more.

The words have some letters that are not done as stencil type letters - you can save the centers and adhere them or use gems to fill the spaces as I did for this card.

I used the snowflake border from the Winter Borders Cuttlebug set to emboss along the bottom of the card.

I hope I have inspired you to think creatively when you set up a project using Design Studio or the Gypsy.  If you plan ahead you can be extremely efficient in the use of your paper and have fun creating secondary designs.

If you would like to try my file you can download it here.  I would love to see your version posted for the challenge.

  1. A BEAUTIFUL card, Diane. I will be downloading yours to make several for my 2010 holiday mailing list. I love the simplicity and message. I'll certainly be trying my own "take" too, to participate in the Cuttlebug Challenge. There are some VERY interesting projects there, as well as VERY VERY talented designers! TFS
