Simple Thanks Card

This pretty paper with fairy queens is called "Spellbound" and is from the Graphic 45 Springtime Collection.  This is one of the paper packs that was recently available at some Tuesday Morning stores.  The colors are so soft and pretty that I just had to have some to help me start to get in a more "springy" mood!

Here are all of the pieces I cut for this card.  The card base is Bazzill 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches folded to make an A2 card.  The green layer (5 1/4 x 4 inches) is from a DCWV Christmas stack - it happened to be in the pile by my trimmer and I liked the texture and contrast with the fairy paper (5 x 3 3/4 inches).  The extra strips are one cut at 5 x 1 inch in the same cardstock as the base, and three 5 x 1/4 inch strips - two in the green plain and one from the patterned paper.

The opposite side (the "B" side) is this lovely small floral.  I bought the pack of 25 sheets because it was a deal at $3.99 and because I knew I could use this side of the paper for many projects.  Remember, no matter how inexpensive something is compared to the regular price it still isn't a deal unless you actually use it!

I layered the pieces after inking the edges of the patterned paper with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  The one inch strip was left over when I trimmed the 12 x 12 cardstock to card size.  It is exactly the right width to cover a row of fairies.

I used the strips of paper as an alternative to ribbon.  One eighth inch Scor-tape made it easy to adhere the paper.

The grid on the mat makes it simple to center the thin strip on the wide strip.  Once that piece was layered it was simple to match up the two green strips on either side.

When placing paper strips in layers, it is a good idea to cut the top strips a bit longer than and then trim everything to match the bottom strip.

I cut a small scalloped oval with a Spellbinders die for the sentiment.  There wasn't enough contrast so I cut the next largest die in a metallic copper cardstock.

The sentiment looks more important with the shiny frame.  I used a Distress Marker in Peeled Paint to ink the stamp for the sentiment.

The "thanks" was actually the last word in a longer sentiment stamp. Using the marker made it easy to ink only the word that I wanted.

Foam dots raise the sentiment above the striped paper strips.

Three coppery gems in the top left corner add just a bit of sparkle.

This type of card is easy to make in multiples.  You can cut all of the pieces and put the cards together in assembly line fashion, then add the sentiment ovals and gems.

March is National Craft Month - do you have any special crafty plans for the month?  I have two big projects that I hope to finally be able to finish (or at least make significant progress on them...).  Today I am going to try something new and if it works I will tell you all about it tomorrow!
