More experiments with ProMarkers

A few days ago, I wrote about a new (to me) product that I am trying out (here is a LINK to that post in case you missed it).  ProMarkers are alcohol ink markers that can be blended easily and are often used to color stamped images.  I have been experimenting with some other uses for the markers and I will share these soon.

I was eager to try some more coloring with the ProMarkers.   When I went to a local stamping store I found this stamp of a covered bridge scene by Impression Obsession.  My Dad has always been interested in covered bridges and has a reputation for taking guests on extended drives to visit all of the covered bridges in Bucks County, Pennsylvania (where I grew up).  I decided to buy the stamp to make a card for my Dad and to try some more advanced coloring.

Here is the image as stamped.  Once I started looking at it carefully I realized that it was going to be rather challenging - but I gave it a shot.  The image is very dense and it is tricky to figure out what everything is so you can choose the appropriate color.

I did my best to sort things out - as I colored small areas I sometimes discovered details that I had interpreted incorrectly but I decided I had some "artistic license"

On the back you can see a rather abstract version of the image.  The two black spots are ink smears (I had turned my paper over and stamped on the "clean side").  I like the sketchy pointillism look of this side and I may try doing some images "backwards" to see what sort of results I can achieve.

Here is a close view of some of the leaves.  They definitely look better at a distance!  I wanted to make some leaves orange, but I realized that the starter set I have doesn't have a strong orange color.  So I dotted and dabbled and blended to get an orange"ish" leaf.  I have seen leaves in real life that have many colors on a single leaf so I tried to get that look.

I matted the image on green cardstock and then placed in on an A2 medium brown Bazzill card base with an printed orange mat layer from the "Autumn Splendor" mat stack by Making Memories.

I had a few punched leaves on my craft table and I decided to add them to two corners of the image - they are punched from copper metallic cardstock and give a bit of shine to the card.

My blogging friend Enfys is doing a great video series on how to use the ProMarkers on her blog, Going Buggy.  If you are interested in learning more about using the markers I think you will enjoy seeing her lessons.  You'll want to go back to the beginning of last week and follow each lesson - it is a two week series.

You might also enjoy having the chance to win a full set of 148 ProMarkers (worth well over $300!) just by visiting Enfys and leaving a comment on her blog - you can get the full details at THIS POST.

My cold has improved somewhat and my voice is nearly back to normal so I'll be posting the "snowflake video" soon.  I hope you are having a great weekend.

  1. THis is a beautiful card - I know the one time I used copic markers as I was using them I really didn't like what it looked like but when I went back later and looked at what I had done it really looked good. I had to step away to really like it. Thanks for sharing all you do with us - I look forward to your email everyday!

  14. That will be great for your dad!

Don't know if the pro-markers do this, but with copics, you can blend the markers by coloring one color on the tip of the other. They blend as you color & there is no permanent contamination. You just scribble & the other color goes away. That might help for your leaves.

  15. Absolutely beautiful card! I've never tried using markers, and seriously don't know if I'm talented enough. Even the reversed side looks very artistic! TFS.
