Two Years of Blogging...

It's hard to believe, but two years ago today I started this blog.  I actually posted this doily design on February 1, 2008.  I had just begun to use the Design Studio software and I wanted a place to share my designs. When I look back at some of my old posts they make me realize what an interesting experience this has been.  I certainly have learned a lot about so many things - when I started I didn't even know that there was a way to make a "clickable" link.  I also had a cleaner house and a fatter wallet!

I have enjoyed getting to know many people who share my interest in design, photography and all sorts of papercrafting.  I never guessed when I bought my first Cricut that I would become totally immersed in this world.  I have spent so many hours working with the Design Studio program that I create designs in my sleep and I have worn out a brand new wireless mouse.  As program updates came out, I figured out new ways to do projects and I was happy to help teach others how to make the best use of the software.  I am flattered to see how many people subscribe to or follow my blog and I am always happy when they stop to leave comments or ask questions

Since January 1, 2009, I have posted something on this blog every day .  It has been challenging to keep it up and at times I have considered stopping (or at least reducing the frequency of posting) but I do feel a sense of accomplishment from making a resolution and sticking to it.  There have been many late nights involved and I need to make some changes to my night owl status.  (I hardly ever schedule posts in advance - I have done this occasionally to cover times when I may be away and unable to get online for a few days).

I'd love to have some feedback as I make my plans for the next year or so.  I am working on a couple of big projects that will take a great deal of time in the near future.  I think you will be excited to find out what they are but my lips are sealed for the time being!

I have wondered  if it would be better to have some sort of predictable schedule for the types of things I post.  I know that many blogs follow a schedule format (cards on one day, videos another, etc.). On the other hand, it seems that a lot of you truly don't mind checking in each day and finding a surprise.  It could be a lengthy and somewhat technical Design Studio tutorial one day, a simple card another, a recipe, a video, a family or travel story, a cartridge or other product review, a digital project or just some photos that I'd like to share.

So, if you don't mind, leave me a comment and tell me what you really like to find here.  Is there something you'd like to see more of?  Some things you feel disappointed about when you see the type of post for the day? Is it really important to you that there is something new every single day?   I'll take it all into consideration as I decide what to do next.

It is very early in the morning (I am up too late again!) so I will make a second post later today.  I think two years is the sort of milestone that deserves to be celebrated!  I checked the hit counter while I was writing this and it is well over 540,000.  There are over 2,000 people who either subscribe to or follow this blog and, I stopped counting months ago, but at that time there had been over 120,000 downloads of my designs.  I am not trying to boast - I am just amazed to know that so many people are interested in what I do!  So...there will be some thank you gifts!!!!

Thank you all so much and please do leave some comments to help me in my planning for the future.

  1. I just found your blog, and it has been so incredibly helpful! I just got a cricut and the design studio software. Your video tutorials are amazing! I am amazed that you have done something every day on your blog! I would love to see you continue, but by all means, give yourself a break! We love all the help, but completely understand you slowing down a bit! A very big thank you for all your work and help!

  3. Diane, I love reading your blog. Don't change a thing. Your commitment to Cricut designing is understated and should be vigorously applauded. I love the tid bits about your family and home life too. Blogging everyday for over a year is an enormous achievement, one I'll never aspire to. While I enjoy reading your blog everyday, I would understand if you needed to change this.
    Keep up the great creating.

  4. Diane--I love your blog just as it is. I like seeing something new every day because I look every morning. I like the wide variety of posts, including those that are not crafty. I wouldn't have you change a thing.

  5. I am honored to be the first to post. I recognize the time it takes to monitor and develop this type of endeavor. For those of us in cyberland, your expertise is invaluable, but not at the expense of your family or sanity. Regularly scheduled posts would be fine so you could have a life away from the computer. Do whatever you need to do for yourself and your family. Thanks for all you do. :-D

  16. I love your blog and all the ideas you share. I enjoy the "surprise" that comes from your blog everyday. I don't think it would be as much fun for you to have to do a certain "project" on a given day. Your creativity is just amazing. Happy Blogvesary!

  17. I only just got a Cricut... so I like your blog because it's shows me the potential of the little machine! :)

It's AWESOME that you've posted everyday for so long... but I can see why you would want to change that, it's HARD to do!

I love seeing not only what you make, but how you use it! I also love knowing what other things people enjoy. Is this the only crafting you do?!? What else do you enjoy creating? You are very creative, I can tell!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful ideas! Congrats and Happy Blog-o-versary!!!

  20. I love the blog as is. It is always the first one I check with coffee in hand when the kids are out the door in the morning. It feels more like catching up with a friend to me. If you do go to a scheduled format I'll still be coming by because your projects are fun and interesting and your help and explanations are such a valuable asset to my scrapping plans. Hope you have a great day today!

  22. There are some blogs that have a predictable schedule, and I love that about them. Your posts are not so rigid and I love that about your blog. As soon as my husband goes to work I am at the computer to see what new things you are doing. Thank you for allowing all of us into your life. You have shared your trips and vacations with us.I feel like I have gone with you many times. Your posts are perfect just the way they are. 26. Diane, I think 2 years is fantastic and the fact that you've posted daily since 1/2009 is a feat in itself. I read your blog in Google Reader and 'add a star' to your posts everyday to be able to go back to them easily .

Your devotion to DS and your blog is nothing short of fantastic and I look forward to your posts always.

Keep it enjoyable for yourself. Your readers (including myself) will show up whether your posts are predictable or totally random!

  27. My comment is, "How do you do it"? But I'm so glad you do. I have gained so much help from your posts. Your knowledge is a blessing. Congrats on your success, and I pray you are able to continue to share your creative spirit with all of us.

  29. So appreciate all the great info and creativity that you share. I can imagine the time and effort it takes for you to post every day (and since I don't access my e-mail every single day), I would understand if you went to every other day even. I particularly like the cards you share and step-by-step instructions as I am still a newbie to DS. Thanks so much!

  30. Hi Diane,
Congratulations!!!!! I have been a blog follower either by being a follower or email updates, probably from the beginning of your blog. I do enjoy seeing what great ideas you come up with! It amazes me every time! I, on the other hand, like to keep it simple, so I do enjoy you doing all the hard part...hehe. The only thing I would like to see is a listing of all cartridges used (beside the clickable file label) in your cut files that you share, as I have a limited supply of cartridges, and don't really want to invest in anymore, so to save files that I don't have cartridges for is pointless. But, above all, I think you should try to make sure that your endeavor is fun for YOU! Don't stress yourself out so much over trying to please US! Thanks again for all your hard work! Hugs, Val

  31. That is fantastic for you! I am awful at my blog and tend to remember it only when my hubby is deployed so he can see pics of the kids and what I am doing, so keeping up with it is a blow me away type of feat. I like seeing everything you do, and especially how 'idiot proof' you make the directions (I can follow them on no sleep and all the kids screaming). I like that you are creative and often think outside the box and when you find something cool you share it with all of us. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congrats! What a milestone! I truthfully really like your blog as is. I like being surprised about what the project will be. It also feels more sincere, less commercial than some others out there. One of the things I really appreciate is that your cut files seem to usually be for a 6x12 mat. Since I own the small Cricut, this makes me really happy. Keep up the great work!

  33. Hi - I follow your blog daily and I have taken a couple of your online classes. I love how you share so much of yourself in your posts - I feel like you are a friend even though we have never met!! Personally - I would not change a thing about your blog. I can see how trying to keep up with a daily blog would be very tough - so while I enjoy reading your words on a daily basis, I can certainly understand if you need to cut back.

  35. Congrats! Just keep doing what you are doing if you can. I love seeing a "surprise" everyday. I personally like your type of blog better than the "cards on Monday", "design studio on Tuesday" etc type formats. Your blog is one of my must haves. Love it!

  36. Wow, 2 yrs. In this day and age that is quite an accomplishment. I've only recently found your blog, (on the recommendation of a friend I stopped by and fell in love), but already it is one of my favorites. Your CDS videos have helped me tremendously and I enjoy looking at your designs and trying my hand at copying them. You are a very talented lady. Anyway, regarding format - I agree with what another posted said, creating is spontanious. Make and post what you are moved to do. Don't box yourself into a routine. I like surprises so keep um coming.

  37. I love your blog the way it is. It is fun seeing what you come up with. I really appreciate the DS tutorials and all your cut files. The tutorials have given me confidence to try making designs of my own (not nearly as good as your designs though. Congratulations on two years of blogging. I check on your blog every day to see whats new, but do understand what a big commitment it is to do a daily blog. Do what you can for us when you can.
Thanks again for all the inspiration.

  38. I've only had a Cricut since Christmas but I love your blog just as it is. I think most folks just want those nice files you put out and a schedule should be whatever is convenient for you in your life situation. No one will give up watching your site if you went to posting less frequently. So far in my experience, there's not that many all cricut blogs out there. I really enjoy checking in and just want to encourage you to continue.

  49. I've been following for some months now, and I have been helped tremendously by your info. You taught me the importance of "hide select contour". I thought, why would I ever need that. I use it all the time.
You also taught me to think out of the box. Every cut does not have to be used as is. I enjoy your posts everyday and look forward to them.
I know it's time consuming for you, but I ,for one, really appreciate it.
Thank you so much and Congratulations.

  50. Diane, congrats on two years. I think I must have found you early on because it seems like I have been checking your blog nearly every day for at least that long! You have incredible talent and I enjoy the fact that everyday is a surprise. I am a scrapbooking card maker, and like you I never waste any cut! Thanks for sharing your ideas with all of us, and do what makes the most sense for you. We will appreciate whatever you decide. (My husband and I were apart for several months because of work and I used a lot of your card ideas to send him a card every day that we were apart, it helped a lot to have other ideas besides my own!) 52. i think that if you let us dictate your schedule that you might find it not as rewarding for you. i like to know that what i do with each day is dependent on how i feel, and what events are in the near future, when i get up in the morning. i think this is part of the creativity process we go thru. although a laundry list of items to achieve doesn't hurt--pointing you in another direction. do what feels good...

  53. I've been visiting your blog since pretty early on and I have learned so much about my Cricut and how to do what I want to do - I don't do it very often but I know how because of you! How's that for complicated? I just officially followed your blog but I've been getting the Rss feed through Google Reader and I visit pretty much every day. I'm thrilled to read new 'how to's but it doesn't matter to me when you post stuff - I'll keep reading. : ) I do want to say that I visit your blog if I get stuck doing something on CDS before I visit anyone else's!

Thanks for sharing all of your lovely designs over the years, too. I have enjoyed them very much!

Getting to know you through your posts about family, friends and yourself has been wonderful along with the craft side. Personally, I like the unknown. "What is Diane going to come up with today?" As to a post everyday, I applaud your accomplishment. However, I think that all of us would survive if you took a day off here and there--just not too often. :o) You taking care of you is the important thing and, of course, your family. You always make it so interesting, so anything that you decide to do would still be great for me. 70. Diane -
You are so talented & gifted, therefore such a blessing to your followers. It is great fun to learn from you. You have taught me so much about Design Studio & I'm learning the Gypsy from you as well. I thank you for all of your time & lack of sleep you spend making your designs and the time you spend posting them for us to share.
I might like it if you did some LO’s & Cards just using your Cricut w/o using D/S or Gypsy once in a while. The reason for this is as you gain new followers (and you will) there would be simpler designs to begin the learning process from you as well. Just a thought.
What ever you choose, I'll be a follower of yours to the end.
Again, Thank you from my buggy heart.

  77. Diane, I enjoy your e-letter just the way it is. You seem like a good friend letting us know what you and the family are up to and also sharing a mutual interest in the Cricut. Don't make it WORK for you. Just do it like YOU enjoy doing it. Phyllis McKay, southern Maryland

  78. Happy Blogoversary! I have stopped here many times and am now a follower & subscribe to your blog. I love the tutorials. I don't have any LSS around & noone to do any type of classes. Blog hopping is the only way I learn about Cricut & DS. Keep up the good work but don't feel that you have to do something everyday. I can't imagine what a commitment that is. I know it takes hours to read my emails from all the blogs that I subscribe to . I love them all! TFS

  80. I use a blog reader, so when you post doesn't matter to me-I know something new has been posted (blog readers changed my life BTW). I don't think you need to follow a format, I know other blogs that do, but to tell you the truth I couldn't tell you what the format is! I like your mix of creative and personal stuff-I like to see the stuff you do-you make me want to create and do. Do whatever you like-I'll be a following!

  81. Diane, I enjoy reading your blog every day. However, if you would like to have your life back and only post a couple of times a week, I can certainly understand. I like how not all the posts are related to the cricut and paper crafting.

  82. I love your blog as it is! Don't change a thing going to Card Thursday. Don't schedule yourself and inhibit your creativity. thanks for sharing everything you do! I'm sure I've added over 100 hits to your site myself. I never know what to expect and that's the best part!

  88. Diane,
I love to check your blog (sometimes daily). Your blog is an inspiration to me for something new I haven't tried with my Cricut and DS or gyspy. Congratulations on such a momentous milestone.

  89. Congrats on 2 years of blogging. That is quite an accomplishment. I know that I love to see your posts everyday, but I don't always get a chance to read them each day. That said, I don't think you should worry about posting every day. No one needs to have extra stress in their life. I would love to see more of your design studio or gypsy videos. I have learned so much. And those must take a lot of your time, so having one of those versus every day blogging, I vote for the videos, or tutorial type posts.

Thank you for all that you have shared with all of us. You are very much appreciated.

  98. Happy Anniversary, I totally understand if you can not post everyday, I, myself, don't check blogs everyday. My life is to busy for that. I have 3 small children, so I check blogs every 2-3 days. Your design are so incredible and fantastic. I appreciate any download made available. Thanks.

  99. I've been following for a year. Love your blog! Always great info, files and a lovely personal touch. I don't have any suggestions other than that I think you should post as often as you find fulfilling. Quite the accomplishment to post everyday, though it has to have taken away from other things. Good luck with whatever decisions you make.

  111. Hi Diane: congrats on the anniversary. It does take a lot of work to blog everyday.....but to do the creative work you do takes Talent. Thank you for sharing with us as you have. I'm always in awe of what you do. One thing I'd like to see more of is 12x12" full meshes. Of course I say that knowing full well it must take a zillion minutes to create those....I love them. Thanks for ALL you do.

  112. A big Congratulations on your 2 Year Anniversary! I have checked your blog for quite some time and am always amazed at what you do!! You are so generous to share you talents with everyone. I have often wondered how much time it takes to do the tutorials and actually make the creations you do; I can't begin to guess how much time is involved. You are a very giving person to do this. Also, you must have a very wonderful, understanding husband who allows you to give so much of your time and self - I appreciate him for that!! Thanks again for sharing you many talents and valued information!

  113. I would love you to spend 24/7 doing your cutting files. LOL However, I realize you have a life and a family. I am so grateful for your tutorials. I have had the original DS since it first came out. I finally watched some of your videos and became inspired enough to load the program, update it, and actually design a few things of my own. I don't know how much longer it would have taken me to build up the courage if I hadn't looked at your tutorials. You are a fabulous person to spend your time designing and sharing for free. It is for you to determine how much time you spend and what you do. I would just be appreciative for what you did do. However, I think you need to slow down, smell the roses, and concentrate on your family and yourself. (This is simply a ploy to keep you well and healthy so you will be creating forever and ever. LOL) Thank you

  117. I enjoy the surprise of not knowing what I'll see, and it doesn't all have to be cricut related.

I prefer not having a daily post, because I don't always have time to read them & then I just open the ones with an interesting title.

  118. Diane,
I love your blog! Your's is the first thing I check each day. I read all the blogs, so don't think it is necessary to have certain days for certain things. My favorites are how-tos and free files.

  119. Diane, Thank you so much for so many beautiful cut files. I really need to upgrade to the Cricut Expression! I love reading your blog and being surprised each time. I would imagine that trying to stick to a specific type of project for certain days would cause some stress. However, any way that you present your projects is fine with me! Thanks again.

  120. Congrats, Diane. This is THE BEST SITE for inspiration, and technical info on the Cricut Design studio! Always something interesting to read/learn/try. I come back every day. As far as a schedule - keep doing what you've been doing. There are other good sites we can go to for "Simple Card Monday", etc. I would love to see some pop-up designs. I am a fanatic for pop-ups, and will try my hand at creating some, but I'm sure you're light-years ahead of me, so I'll suggest it. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this - I love it!
