Holiday Weekend (and a new camera)

It's Labor Day weekend and time to celebrate the end of summer.  I will be spending some time this weekend getting to know my new camera.  My trusty Nikon D40 has been replaced with a new Nikon D3200.  After more than six years of nearly daily use with the D40, I had a problem with a bad sensor/dead pixels resulting in an annoying red line in most of my photos. Rather than spend more money to try to get it fixed or editing the line out of every photo (ouch - that would take forever!) I took the plunge and bought the current "entry level" DSLR.

I took a few photos in the back yard just to try it out.  This camera is similar in many ways to my old one but has some great new features and the images are 24 megapixels (so clarity is better for highly cropped photos).  It will also take high definition videos - so I may give that a try too.

Remember, today is the last day to get the super savings on  True Scrap 5. You can save $50 with the code LUCKY50 and if you register today, August 31st, before midnight Eastern time, you will get the recordings of the entire True Scrap Young at Heart event (a $97 value) absolutely free.  You can see more details about True Scrap 5 in yesterday's post HERE.

Today (August 31st) is also the last day to qualify get the special "Old School" free bonus bundle from Lettering Delights - see THIS POST for all of the information on the Back to School Dollar Sale.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Will you be taking lots of photos?  What sort of camera do you use and do you like it? I'd love to hear your photo tips - just leave a comment below.

  1. Lucky you to be getting a new camera. So jealous but then I'd never use one as much as you do. Your photos are always so wonderful.

    1. Thanks for the compliment Luria. The point and shoots and even the phone cameras are very good these days. They are often easier to take along than a "big" camera. I use my phone, a point and shoot and the DSLR for different situations. Watch for sales and you may find a good deal on a DSLR.

  4. Awesome! I have the D40 and yes, had it for some time now. I even spent over $200.00 for the lens to get better close up shots while on our Panama Canal Cruise. Now I have a Samsung G3 that has better pixels..lol..Your photos are beautiful!

    1. Hi Roe - Thanks! I loved my D40 but I didn't want to spend more money on trying to get it fixed so it lacks some of the newer features. I like the fact that the new camera has many more megapixels so I can get good quality images even when I crop in severely. Cruises are wonderful for photo opportunities. Which lens did you get? I have been pretty lucky with close ups using the kite lens but I am thinking about getting a macro lens eventually.

  5. I finally joined the DSLR people this summer. Had resisted telling my husband of my dark desire but with our upcoming trip to Mount Rushmore I just had to have a new camera! I absolutely love the Nikon D3200! I took photography classes in college and well my film camera bodies were just obsolete and no way to bring them into the current date, so sad. But the pictures I have been able to take with the D3200 have been fantastic. Enjoy yours and keep sharing!
