Sweet or Sassy - with Creative Charms

The Creative Charms Deal of the Month for July is another great assortment of embellishments - this time mostly in shades of green, yellow and orange.  I just got mine a couple of days ago and one of the first things I noticed was the interesting packaging of the transparent green and orange flowers.

These flower come on a purse shaped card with a sparkly silver handle.  I decided to use the card for a door hanger for a girl's room that could be flipped to either side to indicate the mood she is in - fair warning to the family!

I removed the flowers from the board and traced it on the wrong side of two coordinating pieces of cardstock from the DCWV Citrus stack.  Then I carefully cut out each piece right along the traced line.

I chose companion designs in orange for the sassy side and yellow for the sweet side.

The words "sassy" and "sweet" are from the Paisley cartridge and I cut them at 1 1/2 inches.  I used glitter cardstock for the top layers and textured cardstock for the blackout layers, all from the Citrus cardstock stack.

I usually can cut the glitter cardstock at blade depth 6 with a two times multi-cut but I needed to do three multi-cuts on this glitter cardstock - it is very thick and glossy.

I used 1/8 inch Scor-Tape to attach the ribbon to the "sweet" panel.

I centered the ribbons and trimmed the extra pieces from the sides with sharp scissors.

I used the tip of my scissors to make a starter hole for the string flower brad.

All of the dots and loops give a young fresh feel to this side.  The bright orange daisies add some punch!

I used a few more of the flower brads to decorate the bottom of the purse.

Here is the finished panel for the "sweet" side.

I decided on placement for the three transparent flowers and added dots to mark the brad locations on the "sassy" panel.  I poked the holes and added the flowers.

These bold flowers would put anyone in a sassy mood!

I added green gradient gems at the top near the handle chain.

Extra gems on the letters make the "sassy" sparkle even more.

Seven more gems in the three graduated sizes of the gradient gem stickers finish off the lower left corner.

Once the panels were finished, I applied some more Scor-Tape along the edges of the cardboard to insure a tight bond.

I added some more adhesive in the center with my ATG.  Then I carefully aligned the panels and adhered them to each side of the board.

A Fabulous Fourth!

It's been a busy holiday.  I was at our town Picnic in the Park most of the day to sell chances on a great quilt made by a member of my quilt guild.  I hope you can see from the photo that this was a watermelon quilt - perfect for a picnic!  It was a lovely hot summer day but a bit windy to display a quilt.  Fortunately, my very handy husband is working on a backyard project and decided he could use a few more rocks for the wall he is building, so, two 50 pound bags of river rocks were perfect to hold the quilt stand down.

One of the highlights of the day is the parade of bikes and baby carriages with patriotic decorations.  This little one had a great ride down the lane of trees in the park.

It was so hot that our son and his girlfriend decided to add a new pool to our backyard.  It took them quite a long time to inflate it but they did get a chance to cool off for a while!

We had an nontraditional but delicious dinner.  We recently discovered quinoa (KEEN-wah) which is a fabulous vegetarian option for a summer dinner with fresh peppers, squash, asparagus and some snap peas.  Quinoa is a highly nutritious gluten-free seed with a nutty taste and is a great source of protein.

I have a bit more crafting to do tonight.  Tomorrow I'll be sharing some ideas for using the latest "Deal of the Month" from Creative Charms.  So I am enjoying the air conditioning and the Boston Pops while I finish up!

Happy Fourth of July Weekend!

Happy Fourth of July weekend!  We are busy with lots of activities but I wanted to share a few photos and links to 4th of July projects in case you are looking for some last minute ideas.  I have been writing this blog for several years now and sometimes even I forget about some of my past projects!

I did this mesh design back in 2008 at the request of a reader.  The original post with a link to download the file can be found HERE.

These lanterns were made by adapting the original design.

These adapted designs are compatible with the 6 x 12 mat.  The link to the original post with more information and the files is HERE.

 Here are a couple of cards I made when I was asked to preview the Stand and Salute cartridge last June.  The cartridge had not yet been added to Design Studio so these were done using the machine the "old-fashioned" way.  You can find more details HERE.

I hope all of my Canadian readers had a great time on Canada Day yesterday.  For Americans, the 4th is just around the corner.  I bought a cute graphic set, paper and alphabet bundle called "Canada, Eh?" from Lettering Delights and made this quick sample.

I bought a huge bundle called "Sew in Stitches Super Bundle" and this line drawing of a butterfly is one of the images.

I separated the areas and colored the butterfly.  Then I removed the drawing lines and added a three dimensional edge and some background paper.

I made this button to use as a corner on a photo page.  Working with the digital images with my Creative Memories StoryBook Creator software is so much fun!  I am waiting to see that everyone who ordered it during the sale has received their copy, then I'll be hosting some online question and answer sessions next week.

Vacation at the Beach

Today is the first of July - Happy Canada Day to all of our neighbors to the North.   I hope to have a few special files ready for you soon.

Today is also another Sweet Treat Thursday over on the Cuttlebug Challenge Blogspot.  The theme was "vacation" this week.  Please be sure to visit the Cuttlebug Challenge blog to see all of the Design Team projects.

I made a decorated gift bag that would be great to fill with special beach treats for some friends.

The bag is cut from the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge (there are lots of nice extras on this font cartridge that normally comes bundled with the Expression).  I cut it at 11 inches using the 12 x 24 mat and the Provo Craft 12 x 24 textured cardstock.

The wave, bikini border and the words are from the Life is a Beach cartridge.

I thought there were too many bikinis after I cut the word art, so...

I trimmed the bikini from the words.  The bikini border is cut from DCWV glitter cardstock from the Spring Stack that came out last year.

I set up all of the decorative cuts on one mat and then could simply choose the papers in the right sizes to get perfect cuts for the bags.  When you do this it is important to pay attention to the grid and position your cuts so that Design Studio will cut them centered in the proper paper locations.

 This inexpensive pencil case (I think it was $1 at Staples) is decorated with some vinyl cuts.  These were left from my water bottle project (here is a LINK) and I believe the flowers are from the Give a Hoot cartridge.  The word "sweet" is from Paisley  cartridge.  The plastic will keep the contents dry though it is not watertight.  Sunglasses should fit in the box nicely.

I added a bit of bling to the bikini tops and the dots of the "i"s.  They add some personality to the images.

 The flower gems I used came from this assortment from Creative Charms - they are from the Spring Medley in pink.  Today is also the day that a new Deal of the Month starts at Creative Charms.  I'll be back with more details about that soon.
 
So...how teeny would the bikini have to be to fit in the bag?  The bag measures 6 x 7 x 2 inches - 84 cubic inches.  I think it would need to be a bikini for a small child (or a very daring adult)!
